I just wanted to point that out again just to remind people about the double standard in the media and, more importantly, how Democrats comport themselves.

1. Romney's Vietnam-era 'mission' work was in a French castle with servants at his beck and call...

he wasn't spreading anything but his contempt for those who DID serve their country whether they wanted to or not.

2. Being a draft dodger isn't bad

Bill Clinton was a draft dodger--while speaking out against the war.

What really sucks is the chickenhawks who avoided serving while being all for sending other mothers' sons to suffer, and bleed, and die.

Some time back, a group of us VN vets were invited to speak to a HS history class in Maryland. We arrived to see "VIETNAM" spelled out on one wall. The letters were made with 58,000 straightpins the students had spent 5 minutes each day putting in...

The teacher was a man who had resisted the draft, and refused to go when he got his notice. He served time in jail for refusing the draft.

And we Vietnam vets respected him. He was a great man, and a great teacher.

Hid behind his religion and then heckled guys who didn't want to go...

There are thinks that are legal and still ethically and morally challenging.

The new Tom Selleck show, Blue Bloods, aired an episode is about the right wing Police Commissioner, Selleck, who come to an understanding about those who served and those who helped people to get into Canada.

Now I like Tom Selleck as an actor and a man. I don't like his politics but I respect him. This is a show worth watching. It's an episode about believing in a god, your family and your country and not being afraid to question those beliefs.

What bothers me most about conservatives is not their politics but their willingness to say anything and do exactly the opposite in their private lives.

seems like war records have hurt candidates not helped them recently. Bush vs. Clinton. Then Clinton vs. Dole. Then Bush vs. Gore. Then Bush vs. Kerry. Finally Obama vs. McCain. If the media loves a war record then the candidate with the weak war record wouldn't have such an easy time of late. The problem is so few Americans (relative) serve these days that the voting public doesn't hold it against a candidate. Plus it is not like the war have exactly been popular. Even gulf war service doesn't get the props from the media. You had Palin and Biden sending kids to fight and Romney sending his kids to safety and the voting public just doesn't seem to care.

5. Also, many people of voting age simply were not alive during Vietnam.

Or were young children. I was born in '75, so I have no memory of it. My Dad was in the army but never got called over. I am actually happy that Obama was past the age of having any issues with Vietnam. We seem to have an issue every election over it. Most people my age and younger do think Vietnam was a mistake and many people were forced to make decisions they didn't want to make. Many conservatives got off easy and there is some rightful anger over that. Romney is a hypocrite but I doubt it will be an issue again as Obama was too young and no one will be able to compare the two just like with McCain last time.

It would be nice if this came up in the primary but either way I am sure we can discuss it when/if he wins the nomination.
