It's a well crafted and well performed police drama centered on a family of New York Irish folks who can trace their police roots back centuries.
It's very traditional, very conservative.
I wouldn't expect anything else from Tom Selleck.
I like the man, he's a good, solid actor and he is true to his convictions.
I don't like his politics but he never questions the beliefs of others at least publically that I have found.
The show is one of my guilty pleasures.
This Friday past, the show was about Selleck, who is the NY Police commissioner, being asked to add his support for the canonization of a priest who worked to get draft dodgers out of the country during the Vietnam War. This priest also aided a man who bombed a Armed Service recruiting storefront.
He questioned the morality of the priest to the point where he decided to investigate on his own.
There was also another story thread that involved faith.
It was a nice exploration of people's faith without being in your face about it.
It is also about family, the traditions within the family.
There was no violence just two crimes committed off camera.
If you get a chance to watch his show, I would recommend it.
I have a link here to the Episode I mentioned.

(9,709 posts)I doubt if that's a coincidence. Taking into account that and the subject matter, I don't think there's any question Blue Bloods was formatted to cater to the RW..

(31,947 posts)I never pay attention to the politics of actors whether TV or movies. It would be like not shopping at a food store because the meat cutter is a conservative. Ridiculous.

(14,933 posts)seem just so cliched to me. Maybe there are really families like that out there. Just none I've ever know. Still, it touches on lots of good subjects and is tastefully done. Selleck is great in it.

(45,558 posts)But I do know a lot of people that keep that Sunday Dinner.
We never did, it was pretty much everyone for themselves.
My wife's family is very family oriented.

(60,332 posts)As many of the Blue Blood episodes are.
It is not your typical cop show with crime and investigation but delves deeper in to the lives of the cops portrayed.

(22,308 posts)I like it.
I like the way they have a rookie, a detective, the current Commissioner and the retired Commissioner plus a prosecuting attorney (and the rookie has a law degree) all sitting at one table to discuss issues from all different angles. Then they Have children of various ages there to ask questions (for the audience) and help provide background to the issues. Then the Lawyer is also a mother and the detective's wife is also there to help present a more feminine perspective.
The Sunday dinner scenes are my favorite part of the show.
Disclaimer: I was raised in an Irish Catholic family but no longer practice that faith. Also I have known a first cousin of Selleck since I was in my teens so I am a little bias there.

(20,043 posts)my husband and I watch all the episodes. Sometimes the 'family' thing is a bit much, a little too fairy tailish. Otherwise, I think it's a good show, it's not Hill Street Blues or NYPD Blue, but it's good.
I haven't seen the episode you're talking about yet, but I will. We usually watch 2-3 at a time.

(37,748 posts)Sounds more interesting than I initially gave it credit for.
I may give it a watch this week. Thanks for the heads-up
(and as for Selleck's politics, I figure the day I cannot separate the art from the artist, I may as well become a Republican myself...)
