Please, come right out and say it.

This isn't about Abortions...GOP has tipped their hand going after Birth control, (which reduced the need for abortions) this is about controlling women.

They have been exposed. Can we please come right out and say it?

When people say they want to drag us back into the 50's, they mean the 1250's. They want all women barefoot and pregnant, but they needn't worry - wealthy women have always had access to birth control and abortions, and always will. It's just poor and middle class women that will suffer.

Demographics. As Oreilly said, White people are not procreating enough, and brown minorities are too much.

Control women, and require the ones in red states to concieve, while allowing minority women in blue states to abort, and you address the demographic problem. Add to this, a hostile environment in red states for minorities, and you will segregate the states for maximum effect.

This may be overt, or more likely subliminal.

The red states fear being diluted. They talk about secession. alligators and moats, electrified fences, with warning signs in Spanish. Leaving the poor to die at the first health troubles.

All of this is their fear of the end of white hegemony.

I live in a red state that seems to be getting redder all the time. Odd, do you have statistics for Kansas? I would not be surprised to see some of that but it is not the feeling I get here from people, the state government yes, but the people have been positive for LGBT equality on all but marriage. They have been positive on anti bullying policies in the schools. They do not like bashing of any group of people with the possible exception of undocumented workers and that has been beat into their dopy skulls by the likes of Kobach. Still, the issues are all separate in some minds so it would not surprise me to see a lot of that.

I agree that may be the push right now but this is a decades old move that has finally reached this particular end. It won't end here even if they get all they want. It will not end here. We get to vote and do things on our own without male guidance, authority or control. What is next will be worse than this and there will be a political motivation for it too.

It is all about control and politics are used to gain it, more personally the fist and the family and just about anything that can pressure a woman into doing what a male person wants.

We used to think they would never really stop abortions because they would lose that issue but look at them go.

Perhaps it is the day, I am feeling contentious. Sorry.

It might work for evangelicals which is what I think this is aimed at but most Catholics are not as fanatical or hypocritical. They've been ignoring the church on birth control for decades. This isn't going to fire them up against Obama and is more likely to back fire on the GOP.

The GOP has no other option. They can't run on jobs and the economy. On the surface their best candidate for that is Mitt Romney but he made a fortune dismantling the economy and selling the leftovers to China. That's been made abundantly clear in the primaries and it's the reason his polls are tanking. He has single-handedly destroyed their 2012 strategy just by being there. Evangelicals hate him, everybody hates him.

Newt is the turd in the GOP's punchbowl. He's not going anywhere. Santorum and the evangelicals are all that's left. And make no mistake about it. Rick Santorum is not going to win the Catholic vote.

this 'strategy' might work.

But I think the fears (or hopes, on their side) that the 'quiverfuls' will take over the world with their clean cut, well-groomed jesus-children are overblown. These people think they have the godless, sinful, sex culture to rebel against. Generation #2 or #3 on their Jesus commune are only going to have them and their stifling, repressive bullshit to rebel against.

The fact of the matter is, society is getting more socially liberal and more progressive all the time. 15 years ago gay marriage was a fringe idea. Now, it's practically an inevitability.

It's not a question of who is breeding and who isn't, it's a question of freer information, more communication, and people generally waking up.

I think that in a shallow sense the GOP's motive is simply to pander for votes.

In doing so they have backed the old male dominated hierarchies including the Catholic Church hiearchy (not the majority of Catholics by a stretch) who indeed want to controll women.

And in doing that they have backed the wrong horse, as they will now realise and try to walk it back (and look like fools).

(Those old male dominated hierarchies also includes the GOP itself--which has blinded them.)
