American pope. On the way home, I heard Nia Malika Henderson on NPR relate how she has seen people coming up to him and handing him crosses and asking him to pray for their families. This was part of the "On Point" program. They also played his guillotine BS which is more than just the kill-the-librul crap is was trotted out as on this board yesterday. What he was doing was castigating a Christian theocracy as the norm while all other sensibilities were vehicles for dismantling a free society--that no human rights can exist without factoring in a fundamentalist Christian theology. What concerns me is that the media has gradually started portraying this man as a reasonable and thoughtful political figure. He is NOT. He is a purveyor of a very destructive form of divisiveness that has been cultivated over the past 30 years, starting with the tactics of Falwell, who formed a marriage of convenience with the Catholic church. The entire political dynamic of global politics is being manipulated by fundamentalist religious factions. Rather than joking about this man, we do need to take seriously the money that is starting to back him in tandom with the corrupt election system.

(20,812 posts)a nice prime time speech to inform the general public how completely out of touch GOP is in terms of social issues. The convention floor will love it and the independent viewing audience will be horrified.
