Megadeth's Dave Mustaine endorses Rick Santorum

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine power-chords for Rick Santorum

Frontman of the heavy metal ensemble has come out in support of the former Pennsylvania senator's bid for the presidency

Policito is reporting that Rick Santorum has picked up another key endorsement today:

You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House … and that it's Rick Santorum.

That would be none other than Dave Mustaine, Metallica reject and head honcho of heavy metal juggernaut Megadeth. The phenomenon of metal heads going ultra-right wing is not new: Ted "Catscratch Fever" Nugent is an outspoken supporter of gun rights and a conservative author and talk show regular.

I knew I never liked Megadeath for some reason.

He's got whatever that complex is when you party really hard early in life and then get religion and go way extreme to the other end to try and make up for being what you were before.

But the one consistent thing is, no matter what part of his life you look at, he was always an asshole.

Lars and Jaymez will confirm (and they oughtta know).

Megadeth was my second band back in the day. Then they followed Metallica down the sell out hole, Dave got off drugs and turned born again, the Republican nonsense started soon after.

He makes me sick.

He was a hack in the 80s when he got unceremoniously dumped by Metallica, and he's just gotten worse over the years.

Mustaine is many things, but talentless isn't one of them. Just because the guy is a religious freak doesn't mean he isn't a damn good guitar player.

He got dumped out of Metallica because he was a violent drunk back in those days. The music he wrote in Megadeth was far more intricate than what Metallica could ever dream of.

That said, he's a hopeless lost cause now having slid down the religious freak path and his current music lacks the energy and passion that makes great metal.

But CountDown to Extinction, Rust in Peace and Peace Sells are not the makings of a "talentless hack".

Peace Sells is one of the 5 greatest thrash/metal albums ever. It is stunning. Musically, they were probably a slightly better band on rush in peace and Countdown to Extinction, but those albums were not as heavy or aggressive.

Although Countdown to Extinction has some really great lyrics that did display Mustaine's potential before his brain got sucked out by the bible thumpers.

WHAT metal band would write a song focusing on having empathy and compassion toward endangered animals? The song "Countdown to Extinction" is one of the, if not the most unique lyrical approach in the history of metal.

But because it comes from a touchy-feeling Liberal slant I suspect that song is no longer in the Megadeth set list.

I don't know how much Vodka and cocaine you have to ingest to manage that, but it has to be a whole lot.

Mustaine was "born again" in 2002 and he's pretty much been a sanctimonious prick ever since.
