Son Shoots Elderly Mother Trying to Stop Pitbulls From Fighting

A Plantation woman, in her 80s, is recovering in the hospital after her adult son shot her in the leg, according to Plantation police.

It happened just before 6 p.m. Tuesday in a home on the 4500 block of West Broward Boulevard, police said.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the family has about 10 dogs of various breeds and that a few of the alpha dogs started fighting among themselves, Detective Robert Rettig said.

The woman's son, William Hart, grabbed a gun and fired it, police said, in an attempt to break up the brawl, when he accidentally hit his mother. "I wasn't too sure, but I heard screaming and as soon as I walked in I saw my mom with a pitbull in each arm and she's on the ground and they're fighting," Hart said.

7. That story reminds me of something that happened years ago.

My sister and her husband were living with his mother, Elga. They had two pit bulls, Easy, and his son, Sonny. One day the two dogs got into a fight in the house. Elga had to use a water hose inside the hous to separate the two dogs. So I ended up with Easy, since they could not have the dogs together any longer.
