GOP demands apology for Obama campaign manager's 'chimichanga' tweet

By Justin Sink

Republicans are demanding an apology Wednesday from President Obama's campaign manager after a tweet that they argue was insulting toward Latino Americans.

Jim Messina, who is helming the president's reelection effort, tweeted a line from a column written by The Washington Post's Dana Milbank, in which he argues that Republicans will struggle to attract the Latino vote after coming out against the DREAM immigration reform act.

"Line of the day from WAPO's Dana Milbank: 'The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos,' " Messina tweeted.
But the comments drew rebuke from Republicans, who argued the reference to the deep-fried burrito was culturally insensitive.

"The fact that the campaign manager of President Obama's reelection campaign thinks it's appropriate to disseminate insulting jokes about the Hispanic community is a perfect example of the kind of empty rhetoric that characterizes this White House's so-called outreach to Latinos. We demand that Mr. Messina immediately apologize and we ask that President Obama disavow his campaign manager's ridiculous statement," said Jennifer Sevilla Korn, executive director of the conservative Hispanic Leadership Network, in a statement.

That's rich isn't it?? The repubs demanding an apology for the Latino Americans..... with their track record of positives to the Latino Americans.

The rethugs have absolutely nothing to offer Hispanics (or any other minority group).

Rethugs are just pissed that Messina and Milbank are pointing out their racism.

is that Milbank's joke is referencing a comment by John McCain! (Who, admittedly, was not talking about Latinos but about things that come from Arizona -- not that Chimichanga's come from Arizona, but you don't look for sense from the man who foisted Palin upon us.)

There you will see what RWingers think of minorities.

For them to accuse anyone of bias toward minorities is ludicrous.

... building an electrified fence on the Mexican border?

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally.

The remarks, which came at two campaign rallies in Tennessee as part of a barnstorming bus tour across the state, drew loud cheers from crowds of several hundred people at each rally. At the second stop, in Harriman, Tenn., Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops "with real guns and real bullets" on the border to stop illegal immigration.

So I guess it might be considered unfair to say that Republicans have nothing to offer.
