Before Tommy Jordan became a viral superstar, he had posted an appeal for donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, under the eerily presentient title "PLEASE HELP KEEP ME OUT OF JAIL", linking from his Facebook page. Apparently Tommy has been something of a wild boy from way back: "Yeah I know a lot of you are thinking it was inevitable eventually, right?" (full text and link given below). He was hoping to raise $800. In one month he raised $320.
He said "I've got happy healthy children who get to enjoy the best of what life has to offer, but not all kids do."
Then everything changed, and he certainly had an unhappy daughter.
As the notorious video trended off the charts, the media were staking around his front yead, bombarding his phone, work, email accounts and yes, Facebook for exclusives. The answer was no.
His embarrassment, or her embarrassment? Probably everyone involved. A quote from the same article, suggest Jordan who works in IT, was, amongst other things, trying to demonstrate that when it's on the internet, it's really out there, especially on Facebook. He succeeded.
Jordan wants to move on, except from one thing - his support for the the Muscular Dystrophy Association. His page has now raised $7,600, and counting.
BTW, Tommy supports Ron Paul, which explains a lot.
Jordan's Muscular Dystrophy Association Appeal.
I'm going behind bars for "GOOD"! Yeah I know a lot of you are thinking it was inevitable eventually, right? Well, relax there buddy.. it's for a good cause. We're supporting the MDA this year and volunteering to be locked up. We can only get bailed out with donations to the MDA from our friends, family, co-workers, etc.
I don't often subscribe to many charity events, but this is one of those I really support. I've got happy healthy children who get to enjoy the best of what life has to offer, but not all kids do. This is our way of helping those children enjoy it too. Please consider bailing us out with a donation!
PLEASE HELP BAIL ME OUT!
Your donation is my key to freedom! Be proud of the fact that together we're providing help and hope to kids and adults served by MDA in our community.

(18,775 posts)"She's seen first-hand through this video the worst possible scenario that can happen. One post, made by her Dad, will probably follow him the rest of his life; just like those mean things she said on Facebook will stick with the people her words hurt for a long time to come," Jordan adds. "Once you put it out there, you can't take it back, so think carefully before you use the Internet to broadcast your thoughts and feelings."

(18,775 posts)I meant that he's displayed at least some amount self awareness about what he did, indicated by the quote I included, and also by not cashing in on the media attention.

(163,986 posts)I would have advised him not to speak to the media, too.
And, although he said he would not speak to the media, he has been speaking to them or leaking to them constantly, right?
The thing about these guys (and by that I mean, violent, angry guys who need a gun to communicate with their 15 yr old daughter, these Ron Paul endorsing, anti - big government, pro "religious freedom" guys) is that they are master orchestrators of public opinion. Everything they do is to muster support for their fucked up behavior.
I could be wrong but, I bet we see more of the self-interested same.

(21,078 posts)He may raise 40K for his charity, but his book sales at amazon are soaring and he is selling all sorts of things on his facebook page.
Even if its a hoax his daughter must be having an awful time at school and in her life, thanks to her dad.
