Yesterday i posted a link to a photo of Trayvon Martin and his family from this Scopes page:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/politics/martin.asp
The link worked fine yesterday, but todauy waht you see on my post is a big green Yuck face. I went back to Scopes, and the photo is still there, but if you try to link to the photo, you get a Yuck face.

(21,752 posts)I do not know where your other post is but... I suspect you are linking directly to the picture so that it shows up in your post. This uses bandwidth for the site you are linking to every time the post is looked at... A lot of sites tend to frown on that and will sometimes change the link so that you see something other then intended.

(25,930 posts)that they don't appreciate hot-linking to photos on their website, which uses their available bandwidth. Try saving the photo to a photo-hosting service like Photobucket or Flickr, then link to the photo saved to your account. Everything should be alright.

(25,930 posts)In that case, you can simply go into edit mode and either delete the direct link to the Snopes webpage or go the route I mentioned earlier, in which you replace the link to the photo on Snopes with one to the photo from your photo-sharing account.
I've played fast-and-loose with hot-linking in the past, but I'm much more circumspect nowadays. One time, I hot-linked to a photo, and the admins replaced the photo with some really gnarly porn. It was quite embarrassing for me.

(146,286 posts)I'd advise doing just that.
There's always a risk when you hot-link to a photo that the owner of the location of that photo will substitute something else for the hot-link. In some cases, the result is really, really obscene.
People don't like their bandwidth hijacked in some cases.

(1,799 posts)And I like the debunking of all whining about using pics of Tryavon as younger. Of course the same people whining call Trayvon a football player although he hadn't played on a team since he was 13.

(240 posts)If it was someones blog, personal site or a website that plays by it's own rules, they could have swapped out the hot linked pic with something a little more embarrassing or eye opening.
