KU researchers to test a male partner for ‘The Pill’

Women may say, “It’s about time.” Guys may have the same reaction.

After many overly optimistic predictions, a male version of The Pill may truly be in sight. And a team at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, a nationally recognized center of research into male contraceptives, is working to be among the first to put a new generation of products on the market.

Joseph Tash, a reproductive biologist at KU, has spent a decade tinkering with a chemical compound called H2-gamendazole that keeps sperm from developing in the testes. Men taking a gamendazole “pill” would essentially be shooting blanks.

The expectation is that men on the KU pill would experience no change in their libido and, if they stopped taking it, would regain full fertility within a few weeks.

will they remember to take it every day?

I don't trust most men to be responsible. They would rather leave all that up to the woman. After all, they are not the ones getting pregnant.

getting along well at all - so the church told them to have a kid and all would be well. Great, they had a kid, still a divorce, child custody issues and all - she remarried years later and her new husband really did not like the kid. So yep, having a kid sure fixed it all, church. Yep, just the thing to tell a young couple, have a kid and it will fix everything. Then you can really F up your lives and involve a child too.

The Star has been all over the RCC because the bishop in KC was indicted for covering up pedophile priests. First bishop in the country to be criminally charged for this. And the Catholics in KC have been fighting back, mainly on the comment blogs.

One of the things a male contraceptive pill will do is to remove male responsibility for conception. For some, that may well lead to increased sexual activity. Partners be aware!
