Poll: Obama Would Lose Iowa

Oy, it's not looking good for the POTUS in Iowa. According to a new survey by The Des Moines Register, President Obama would lose to three of the four Republican candidates if the election were held today. Considering that Iowa was where Obama launched his 2008 winning campaign, the news should come as a worrying sign. According to the poll, Ron Paul would beat Obama 49 percent to 42 percent in a head-to-head race. Rick Santorum would win 48 to 44, and Mitt Romney would eek out a 46–44 victory. The only candidate Obama would beat is Newt Gingrich, 51 percent to 37 percent. “This is not a secure state for Obama,” said J. Ann Selzer, pollster for The Register.

You must not have been watching in 2008. Iowa went for Obama in the primary and general election. Plus its went Democratic in the last 5/6 national elections and has one of the most liberal senators. I know its hard for some of you to believe that there are liberals and progressives that don't live in California or New England, but trust me they do exist.

14. Oh I sure do know that Tom Harkin is one of the most liberal senators....

But I also see what is happening as the president has been essentially defined as a divider by the GOP and that is going to be hard to over come, especially with moderate conservatives who didn't want to be on the wrong side of history.

And the polls released yesterday show that the president is losing in the Des Moines register poll and that Rasmussen tracking has president Obama ahead.

We shall see in eight and half months.

2. The ironic thing is that Iowa

has not been impacted nearly as much by the recession as other parts of the country. I just think he needs to spend some money in the state getting his message across (frankly I am not certain what his message is besides his opponents are a sorry lot).

5. And that is an important factor

"If the election were held today" ignores that the president's campaign has only begun, and with a focus on more advertizing money spent in Iowa he can add a few points to his numbers.

doing almost nothing but attack Obama. Is it really surprising that he would not be doing that well right now? With time and more focus on the negatives of the GOP nominee, things will move towards Obama's direction again, especially if it's Romney.

As an Iowan, I assure all that Obama will take Iowa in 2012 as sure as he took it in 2008.

8. I don't know about this. Paul with the highest margin of victory?

That seems suspect to me.

On the lighter side though, not only is Gingrich the lone loser, he also has a larger margin of defeat than Obama does against any other Republican.

This had Paul winning? Do you think he would win in November if he was nominated? Give me a fucking break. This is all bullshit. The election is many months away, and polls don't mean shit now anyway.

...Iowa is a must-win state for us. It's six electoral votes could mean the difference between 266-268 electoral votes and 272-274 electoral votes. We've carried it 5 of the last 6 elections, let's not let it slip away!!
