I've only had the flu twice in 59 years and was totally incapacitated for at least three days each time, and barely functional for another 3 days, so when someone says they have the flu but they're up doing stuff, I'm amazed/envious.

I've had the flu 3 times in my life, including once in college. I remember calling my parents and telling them that I was going to die because that's what I felt like. It's miserable.

looks like cali's taking the brunt of it now. i'm in nor cal and don't have it....yet. i did get the flu shot earlier though. my sister said she had a flu shot in november and still got it, so it must be something different. my brother's flu turned into walking pneumonia and he was sick for almost 2 weeks.

i stay inside most of the time, so maybe it will bypass me (crossing fingers).

Bacterial pneumonia secondary to flu isn't uncommon - in fact, that always happened to me before I got the pneumovax (the ONE advantage of becoming diabetic from a steroid overload!).

Stay well!

i'm recently dx'd diabetic too. one thing i've noticed is that when i take otc meds, my BS goes up. not a lot, but noticeably. i heard that diabetics should get the flu shot, but not that it was connected to pneumonia. i've never had pneumonia, but it is supposed to be horrible.

The pneumovax is good forever. It doesn't protect against ALL pneumonia, but enough of them that I haven't had it since (knock wood).

My BG gets really, really low when I'm sick. It's weird.

the pneumonia vaccine. yes, i did get that at the same time as the flu shot. now hopefully the flu shot covers the flu that's going around now!

you stay safe too!
