He should absolutely be reprimanded for his idiotic statements concerning the Zimmerman trial.
I always enjoyed the Barkley show...His commentary on the NBA games were always enjoyable in my mind, kind of a straight shooter...even mentioned going into politics..Will never pay attention to him again!!......http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/bestoftv/2013/07/19/exp-erin-intv-charles-barkley-full-interview-zimmerman-case-and-race.cnn.html

(597 posts)he explained a lot of things especially why the media played this case up.
The media loves a race story. The great white hope
black vs white gets eyeballs and sells ad space.

(8,515 posts)That Zimmerman was getting the shit kicked out of him by this young skinny kid and he only shot him
because he was acting in self defense...Nice!!
Zimmerman profiled and followed Trayvon (wrong but legal)
Zimmerman confronted Trayvon and accused him of being a criminal (wrong but legal)
Zimmerman told him to stay put till police got there and prob other mean and hurtful things (wrong but legal)
Trayvon got mad because he was doing nothing wrong and he belonged there and whipped Zimmermans ass (understandable but not legal)
Zimmerman shot Trayvon (jury ruled legal given the law)

(597 posts)by law Trayvon
by heart/morals Zimmerman for starting the whole thing.
had there been no fight and just a shooting by law Zimmerman
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)That seems like twisted logic to me.
ceonupe
(597 posts)yes
He was fighting GZ
GZ by law had right to shoot him
did not say I agree with the law or how this case applies to it.
Now if there was no fight then things would be different and GZ would be serving 25 to life

(71,265 posts)Zimmerman should be in jail.

(5,039 posts)What's the difference between being a BULLY and fighting for your LIFE (especially if you see a gun)?
What if Zimmerman grabbed Trayvon to prevent him from getting away and Trayvon fought to get him away from him? What if, what if what if?
FACT: No one knows what really happened except Zimmerman and Trayvon (and he's dead). The residences there can't say clearly what they saw or who they saw. No one saw the whole thing. And again, there was NO DNA of Zimmerman on Trayvon.
I don't totally buy this "fight" scenario.

(597 posts)it probably was a good ole fashion ass whippin. 17 year olds are not adults and insults can be extremely hurtful and set them off just like false accusations of being a crook when all you are doing is walking home will piss you off. and then its some wannabe watchman with no uniform telling me to stay put. its quite easy to see a 17 ear old saying fuck that and going into fight mode.
the problem is the state nor evidence showed Zimmerman started the fight and the state sat on a dummy as the aggressor in a fight admitting what the ballistics already showed and that was trayvon on top.

(6,635 posts)confronted, and murdered Trayvon Martin and the Florida "justice" system allowed him to get away with murder. SYG laws are nothing more than legalized vigilantism, and Zimmerman took advantage of that ill-conceived concept of "self defense" to act out his fantasy of being a cop to murder an innocent child.

(37,573 posts)and I have never been a fan of his. I usually call him Charge Barkley, and had to laugh when he was wrong about the mighty PAC ten last March. They were not as good as he thought.
But here he makes several very good points
1. we need to talk about race when things are calmer
2. people tend to split into tribes and defend their tribe (fess up Charles, are you reading Somerby's blog? Nobody else is talking about tribes these days are they?)
3. the media loves to play up this controversy - just like much of the media just loooved the Iraq war, some of the media would also love a race war. Think what it would do for the ratings. They want the news to be like Jerry Springer - people yelling at each other and fighting. That's good for ratings.

(8,515 posts)If this whole thing wasnt about a kid being stalked and murdered because he was a Black kid wearing a hoodie and must have been up to something... Its lynch mob mentality.. It just doesnt matter what the
victim did, its murder because he was Black!!

(29,582 posts)Just a suggestion.

(8,515 posts)is just so fucking important!! Not the fact that a kid was murdered. You guys who are all over the place on this particular site complaining about substance and style are a full of yourselves and extremely boring...

(29,582 posts)I'm not doing this just to show off.
I'm doing this because it genuinely irks me to see an OP about how allegedly stupid someone is; and then to see basic grammar mistakes in the OP.
Don't want to use grammar? Fine.
Just don't go around accusing other folks of lacking intelligence.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)But you wouldnt be interested in that would you?.. Im not doing this just to show off Right....
By the way... I will again call Barkley out as an idiot because he essentially gave a pass to George Zimmerman on National Television for the murder of a young black teen age boy who just
left a convenience store after purchasing some candy...
It was one idiotic statement... You are beginning to become a bore

(2,424 posts)Anyone with a lick of sense that watched Barkley's studio commentary during the NCAA basketball tournament will tell you that.
If he can't even make astute observations about a basketball contest, why would anyone lend credibility to his Zimmerman rhetoric?

(22,143 posts)Frightened young boy or whatever, I think Tray was fucking Zimmy up after being provoked and he, Zimmerman, was such a wuss that he felt he had no choice but to shoot the kid. Most bullies are cowards and punks at heart and "Georgie" is no different.
Barkley kept saying over and over that, going strictly by the law and the instructions given, that the verdict was right. He mentioned the profiling, he mentioned the stalking. It wasn't like he was a staunch Zimmerman supporter calling the kid a thug or blaming him. All the other things unrelated to the Martin verdict that he spoke about were also dead on.
I don't understand your outrage or desire to see Sir Charles reprimanded at his job for merely speaking his mind in a noncontroversial way.

(17,111 posts)Dumb is not one of them.
He says what he thinks which is rare. Everybody else tiptoes around many issues.
I don't always agree with him, but I'm glad he has the balls to say it. He makes some good points even in arguing the Martin case. They get thrown out in the uproar.
He has always called people out about their anti-gay attitudes.
He makes remarks antithetical to what people believe here. So immediately HE is personally attacked.
This is how it goes. The problem with someone's ideas aren't discussed. The person has to be sliced, diced, and deemed unworthy.
With the usual suspects such as Steve King or McConnell, that is a good default position. They have consistently made inane comments over years.
BTW Barkley was a great, not just good, but great basketball player. The list of players who were great and did not win a title does not have only his name on it.

cards at that time.. I like Charles.. Enjoy listening to him and even enjoy watching him play golf..
I call loved ones idiots some times and perhaps I was too emotional at the time I posted..
However, I feel Charles could have at least tagged all the ways this trial was mishandled by the Prosecution and Judge( Not allowing expert testimony on Voices)... I realize that one would have had to be following the trial closely and its understandable that he probably didnt.. Understandable.
But he was speaking to a huge audience on T.V. and in my opinion could have balanced his interview out..and maybe should have investigated the other side a bit more...If he did, I am certain he would have mentioned the contrary points..
