So we're in a World Wide battle with an enemy we fund and supply arms to...

The PTB are ready to shred our Constitution because of the fear of "al Queda".

-- yet ---

The PTB have been using "al Queda" since ~1979 to force "regime change" in governments they don't like.

Kinda like this: you hire a group of thugs to kill your spouse, then you spend the rest of your life in mortal fear that either someone will find out or that the thugs will begin to view you as a target.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

Amazing how our meddling always blows up in our faces.

We (with the help of the Brits) undercut the elected Mossadegh government of Iran and installed the Shah in the early 50's, and we can all see how wonderfully that all turned out.

Overthrew that (demcratically elected) Commie Allende in Chile in '73. Whooppee--Pinochet.

Armed radical Islamists to fight the Russians in Afghanistan (as you note). Brilliant.

Overthrew Sihanouk in Cambodia because he wouldn't play footsie with us, leading to the monstrous Pol Pot regime.

Cancelled the scheduled 1956 unification election because the obvious outcome would have been the election of the Commie Ho Chi Minh (who had modeled his Constitution on what he could recall of ours). We all know how well THAT went for us.

Etc.

Apparently, when policy is dictated through mosques instead of state houses, imposed American style democracy isn't quite so effective.

Maintaining a standing army, Governors, civil servants etc. are too expensive, so you install puppets and destabilize when democracy and independence rears their ugly heads.

Empire on the Cheap.

ETA the following:

It's not as if I didn't already know this (an enemy we fund and supply arms to). I've been collecting a stack of information - documented across multiple sources - that I don't dare post because it would, umm...mess with some sacred cows. Alas!

So it goes...as Mr. Vonnegut would say.

out-Salafist-actual-Salafis movement running around MENA AND you get plausible deniability to assist the Gellarbots screeching on every fucking forum that mentions Muslims saying We Have to Fight Them There So We Don't Have to Fight Them Here AND you get perpetual war, a surveillance state, equipment the USAF/Army/Navy/USMC don't need or want, which is all profitable and even politically self-sustaining (there's a lot of Gellarites right here, making sure that Islam is tarred as hard as possible--not to convince anyone, just to keep the ball rolling until we move on to our next designated enemy)

in Afghanistan the lag time between "supporting these brave, pious freedom fighters against totalitarianism" and "escrasez l'infame!" was several years (combined with the sideshow of crack money and arms shipments being used to ineffectively ransom officers typically held by Shiites on the Levant); in Libya it was a few months; now in Syria the CIA is proposing to simultaneously arm and bomb/send killteams after the rebels: they've brought the lead time down to 0

in one fell swoop they out-Orwelled Orwell, who could only see the height of hypocrisy as fighting X on Y's side and then switching to backing X against Y--and not fighting and allying with X and Y at once and with hysterical wholeheartedness (and all the while we're incestuously close friends with both Israel and Saudi Arabia and their respective factions)

if British intelligence has chronic backstabbing disorder (viz, the Balfour Letter, running the Night Squads while refusing actual refugees, playing Indian Muslims vs. Hindus) and the French a Borg-like refusal to countenance any culture other than their own (the massacres in Algeria and Madagascar, flagrant Ivoirian, Chadian, and Rwandan intervention often on the wrong side), then the CIA's main flaw (besides rabid anticommunism that definitely included JFK, MLK, and the YWCA under its definition) is a compulsion to play both sides of the fence--rendering victims to Libya and Syria and then reversing to back Gulfi rebels 100%, and then sending death squads after the "al-Qaeda-ish" ones, and then...

But no, apparently not. All it takes is a CIA-originated meme, "conspiracy theory", and we rewrite reality for 40 years. And that's going just about as lousy as one might expect.
