As far as I know, Ash Wednesday is a time to contemplate your relationship with god and a reminder that man came from dust and to dust he shall return.Rick must not have must not have contemplated his relationship with God for very long today.

it also marks the beginning of Lent

Of what month for that matter.

On Edit: His "anti-sex" position isn't about religion. He just doesn't get any and is upset that most of us get it several times a week.

I thought that was a Big Deal. During the whole Passion thing aren't the faithful required to be on their knees in the church praying and following the stations of the cross?

What happened to these religious guys? Why are they not being an EXAMPLE of their religious beliefs?

If you are going to criticize someone for their religious practices at least do so from knowledge. Stations of the Cross occur on Good Friday. And, it is not necessarily done on one's knees. There are many of us Liberal Christians who do walk the walk rather than talk the talk like the Prosperity Christians. Google is your friend. What are you an example of?

Can't we talk about their "wearing their religion on their forehead" and their lack of compassion about the poor, their support for torture, and their desire to put women back to the Middle Ages?

that you don't have to be in church all day on Ash Wednesday. Many many people go to Mass before work, during lunch, or after work. Sheesh. And not every one fasts on Ash Wednesday either, but hey, don't let facts stop the hate train.....

These guys are the ones who are making a HUGE issue out of their religiosity.* I was poking a bit of fun at them for their pomposity. I have found in my long life that truly religious people do not go around being sanctimonious and condemning others for not being as religious as they are.

I guess you are saying that their glass houses aren't vulnerable to ridicule...

*and I am not the only one sick of hearing about it. Esp. from the serial adulterer who wants to instruct us all on how to live our lives.

On edit: Oh, and while I'm at it, what about Rick's declaration that there is no such thing as liberal Christians? What do you call that, "love"? I know quite a few of them, having worked in the Interfaith Peace movement during the Vietnam War era. So I will thank you for not lecturing me when I point out the obvious disparity of "practicing what they preach." Shees.

When you make comments that YOU intend to be sarcastic, then maybe you should do something to at least indicate at some level or another that that is your intent. I'm not a mind-reader and I don't think anyone else is, oh, I'm sorry, you are. Sarcasm thingee inserted here. I don't usually go around publicizing what I do, all I did was say that I walked the walk. I did not get into any specifics, or do I even want to. As the Scripture in yesterday's services said, don't let your right hand know what your left hand does. My faith community and the greater community that I serve do know what I do.

Good for you that you did do something during the Vietnam era. So did I. More importantly, rather than resting on past laurels, are you still doing something now?

But I don't think it stops you from carrying on about your everyday life. My husband did an Ash Wednesday service last night (he is a church organist). Lots of people coming by church after work. Santorum, I suppose, was doing his "job". Too bad he won't really be repenting for all the horrible crap he says about gays and women and whatnot. He has a lot of repentance to do in my mind.

Nice try, but no. Even more so, it would be considered wrong by many to appear on television with the ashes still on your forehead. It's a tough call, but you're not suppose to hide your faith, or wear your piousness on your sleave. So, yeah, clean it off if you're bragging, but leave it if your intent is to hide your faith.
