A southwest Washington man strapped a bomb to his dog and detonated it Sunday morning, according to sheriff's deputies.

Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said deputies first responded to a report of an explosion at 3:45 a.m. in northwest Stevenson.

When they arrived, they found the remains of the dog.

An investigation showed 45-year-old Christopher Dillingham attached an explosive device to his dog and then blew it up on his property, Cox said.

Investigators from three agencies, including the ATF, responded and found several items of evidence at the scene of the explosion.

They arrested Dillingham on charges of malicious mischief, reckless endangerment and possession of explosive devices, then booked him into the Skamania County Jail.

Dillingham will make his first court appearance Monday afternoon in Stevenson, which is located in the Columbia River Gorge about 45 miles east of Portland.

What did he do, strap the bomb on, say sit, stay, then walk away and push the button. I know my brain is working overtime, I just can't fathom someone, anyone doing this to a dog, let along his dog. It said Dillingham was not charge with animal cruelty because the dog died instantly. What! That's crazy.
