Woman accused of hiring hit man to kill random fur-wearer

Huh?

http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/22/justice/ohio-anti-fur-plot-arrest/index.html

A self-proclaimed animal rights activist in Ohio has been charged with soliciting a hit man to kill a random person wearing fur, either by shooting the individual or slitting his or her throat. Meredith Lowell, 27, of Cleveland Heights, is accused of creating a phony Facebook profile with the intention of contacting a would-be killer, according to the affidavit filed in an Ohio district court.

Lowell allegedly posted on the social media website the following request: "I would like to create an online community on facebook which would allow me to find someone who is willing to kill someone who is wearing fur toward the end of October 2011 or early November 2011 or possibly in January 2012 or February 2012 at the latest."

She then allegedly requested that the murder take place at a local library and that she be present so that she could then hand out documents about animal cruelty after the homicide.

"Bring a sharp knife that is at least 4 inches long, it should be sharp enough to stab someone with and/or to slit their throat to kill them," Lowell allegedly wrote in an e-mail, according to the affidavit. The individual should be at least 12 years old, but "preferably 14 years or older," Lowell allegedly wrote. "I want the person dead in less than 2 minutes (under 2 minutes or 1 minute or less would be better.)"

I used to be acquainted with a guy who went that way. He developed the strangest fixations--numbers, types of people, etcetera--all of which seemed perfectly rational to him even though everyone else could see that he was totally insane.

She knew what she was doing was wrong or she wouldn't have created a fake facebook profile. It sounds more like she is fanatical to the point of being unhealthy, but I'm not so sure she is delusional.

I would go with "no."

Yes, broadcasting your plans to do something illegal through social media is certainly the stealthiest and most effective way to accomplish your goal.

Having known one of those types, I have to say just the way she writes is like a red flag. Repeating certain things, focusing on numbers and ranges, etcetera. She reminds me VERY strongly of that guy.

The quality of loonies has gone way downhill.

I think the loony index has gotten higher, and the intelligence index lower.

Since the latest herd of republican nuts encouraging them, people who are susceptible to being a bit tilted seem to be more encouraged to commit more and more heinous crimes againsst the most vulnerable of us. A damn shame.

yeah, thanks, but we're not claiming her.

This is a crazy person, period.

This has sweet fuckall to do with animal rights, and everything to do with... being fucking crazy.

How do you know she's crazy? This:

Lowell allegedly posted on the social media website the following request: "I would like to create an online community on facebook which would allow me to find someone who is willing to kill someone who is wearing fur toward the end of October 2011 or early November 2011 or possibly in January 2012 or February 2012 at the latest."

If you really had a cogent desire to kill somebody, would you go about it by creating "an online community on facebook" as your means to accomplish such a thing? I'm going to just hazard a guess here, but I'm thinking that series of steps has got to be just about the least effective way of "getting a murder together" outside of calling your local police precinct to see if they have any killers for hire available.

I think the above paragraph should settle any questions.

I hope she gets the help she needs, and I'm glad she was caught before anyone was actually killed.

The sad thing is, if Repukes keep cutting funds for mental health, we are going to be seeing a lot more stories like this.
