Obama Defends Travel Warning in Leno Appearance

President Barack Obama defended the U.S. decision to issue a travel warning and close 19 diplomatic posts in response to a terrorism threat, saying the moves were not an overreaction and urging Americans to go about their summer vacations in a “prudent way.”

Mr. Obama, addressing the threat for the first time Tuesday during a late-night talk show interview, tried to downplay any fear among Americans in the wake of the threat.

“The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident, unfortunately,” Mr. Obama said in a taped segment on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”

I'm not some jet setter, but I do fly to Mexico and Central America two-four times a year and I have kept up with State Dept. warnings for years. Used to ride the bus from Houston to Veracruz a lot, but stopped that in 2009 after I saw my second shooting in Reynosa. State Dept. had been warning about bus travel in northern Mexico for some time. If I was planning a trip to Morocco or Qatar right now, but could easily postpone it I would.
