Greenwald to Reuters: "many more revelations on spying by the U.S. government" to come

I certainly hope that Greenwald knows how to stay safe, has good security
for himself, etc. and that he avoids driving highly computerized automobiles.
I wish him well in what he is doing.

New U.S. spying revelations coming from Snowden leak: journalist
August 6, 2013 * Reuters * By Anthony Boadles

(Reuters) - Glenn Greenwald, the American journalist who published documents leaked by fugitive former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, plans to make new revelations "within the next 10 days or so" on secret U.S. surveillance of the Internet.

"The articles we have published so far are a very small part of the revelations that ought to be published," Greenwald on Tuesday told a Brazilian congressional hearing that is investigating the U.S. internet surveillance in Brazil.

"There will certainly be many more revelations on spying by the U.S. government and how they are invading the communications of Brasil and Latin America," he said in Portuguese.

The Rio de Janeiro-based columnist for Britain's Guardian newspaper said he has recruited the help of experts to understand some of the 15,000 to 20,000 classified documents from the National Security Agency that Snowden passed him, some of which are "very long and complex and take time to read."

Greenwald told Reuters he does not believe the pro-transparency website WikiLeaks had obtained a package of documents from Snowden, and that only he and filmmaker Laura Poitras have complete archives of the leaked material.

Aug 2013

when he revealed he had 'more' documents on a 'very big Bank' that could cause them some serious problems. One month later he was embroiled, as leaked in a CIA document, 'in a sex scandal'.

I am sure the opposition researchers in one of our tax funded 'Security Corps' who most likely got the contract on the 'smear Glenn Greenwald' bid, are working furiously to come up with some new talking points considering the failure of the others (maybe a new contract) to attack HIM with.

We should probably be seeing them shortly.

anything close to a saint.

Three years now, a CIA memo discussing how to 'get him with a sex scandal', NOT A SINGLE CHARGE FILED against him, so no, I would say the odds are he was targeted by BOA and of course their cohorts who orchestrate these things to protect the Criminals on Wall St, almost 100% as time rolls on.

Let me correct you once again:

Sweden is the country that wants him on rape charges and he's been cowering in an embassy for over a year.

When you make this statement regarding this case, you lose all credibility on the issue.

NO CHARGES OF ANYTHING, (although you are supposed to keep using the word 'rape' as you are obediently doing probably inadvertently but very helpfully for the propagandists) HAVE EVER BEEN FILED IN SWEDEN OR ANYWHERE ELSE AGAINST ASSANGE!

Sorry to shout, but no matter how many times this FACT is pointed out, someone comes along and makes this false claim all over again.

THREE YEARS and NO CHARGES. Please at least try to stick to FACTs. It makes DU look bad when these false statements continue to be posted here.

Wed Aug 7, 2013, 03:02 PM

case that tragically, for actual victims of rape, it is losing all meaning, nothing to do with 'charges' or 'rape'. It is a phony warrant issued to ask for something they already got, but I'm not about to educate you on the facts of this case. If you wanted the facts, you've had three years to get them as I did, as yes, I wanted FACTS.

Facing WHAT? He has offered over and over again, even remaining in Sweden, going voluntarily to the Swedish Police and answering all questions asked of him there, over the past three years to do what the warrant claims is what it wants, 'answer some questions'.

The question the world has right now, and the one YOU and anyone seriously interested in facts, should be asking is:

Why won't the Swedish Prosecutor follow the law and comply with Assange's multiple attempts to talk to her? Why won't she do what she needs to do?

It is clear that you know nothing about this case, it is best when that is the case, not to comment on it at all, imo.

There is NO EXCUSE as to why the Swedish Prosecutor refuses to agree to Assange's many offers to speak to her and answer all of her questions, NONE WHATSOEVER. AND she was caugh lying about it to make things worse.

I think most of the world knows why by now. There IS NO CASE and she knows it.

Shameful to see anyone who cares about truth and facts and our democracy, side with Wall St Criminals to try to silence the Press. I don't now what is happening to this country but it is bad.

At least during the Bush years I thought we had some principles, on our side of the aisle. That gave me hope. Now I realize how naive a thought that was. For some it was all about politics and 'teams' and never about principles at all.

Assange was exposing Wall St. Criminals, as he did in Iceland where rather than attack the messenger, they ARRESTED their Wall St. Criminals and their corrupt Govt officials who aided and abetted them, thanks to Wikileaks.

That is why Wikileaks scared the shit out of Wall St and they had to be stopped!! Because of what happened to them in Iceland and should have happened everywhere else.

I don't get why any democrat would be siding with those on the right who are trying to protect the targets of Wikileaks here, Wall St and Bush. I can only conclude they do not know what they are doing.

Assange v Swedish Prosecution Authority

On 18 November 2010 the Stockholm District Court upheld an arrest warrant against Assange on suspicion of rape, unlawful coercion and three cases of sexual molestation.[2] The warrant was appealed to the Svea Court of Appeal which upheld it but lowered it to suspicion of rape of a lesser degree, unlawful coercion and two cases of sexual molestation rather than three, [3][4] and the warrant was also appealed to the Supreme Court of Sweden,[5] which decided not to hear the case. At this time Assange had been living in the United Kingdom for 1–2 months. An extradition hearing took place in an English court in February 2011 to consider an application by Swedish authorities for the extradition of Assange to Sweden. The outcome of the hearing was announced on 24 February 2011, when the extradition warrant was upheld. Assange appealed to the High Court, and on 2 November 2011, the court upheld the extradition decision and rejected all four grounds for the appeal as presented by Assange's legal representatives. £19,000 costs was also awarded against Assange. On 5 December 2011, Assange was refused permission by the High Court to appeal to the Supreme Court. The High Court certified that his case raised a point of law of general public importance. The Supreme Court subsequently granted permission to appeal,[6] and heard the appeal on 1 and 2 February 2012.[7] The court reserved its judgment and dismissed the appeal on 30 May 2012.[8] Assange has said the investigation is "without basis". He remained on conditional bail in the United Kingdom[9][10][11] until on 19 June 2012 Assange sought refuge at Ecuador's Embassy in London and was granted temporary asylum. On 16 August 2012 he was granted full asylum by the Ecuadorian government.

The only programs most people even remember are PRISM and the metadata collection. So far there is no evidence of direct access to servers the way he claimed. As for the metadata phone record collection, that is something we've known about since 2006 or so and a warrant was obtained.

I wonder when his book is coming out. Interesting how he's trying to cash in on all this.

Wed Aug 7, 2013, 03:11 PM

wanting to stop them from exposing anymore of their criminal banks, as Wikileaks did in Iceland. That really scared them to death, when Iceland, unlike the US, actually ARRESTED the criminals who had brought down their economy.

After that Wikileaks had to be stopped, ALL free press is a threat to Wall St Criminals, Greenwald eg, being targeted in the leaked HB Gary Emails by another criminal enterprise, Bank of Amerca, when Greenwald defended Assange's right to publish the leaks he had mentioned he was in possession of re possibly BOA.

See the problem is we remember why Greenwald and Assange and Drake and all the others who were exposing the truth about these criminals.

The Corporate Media has been completely controlled, nothing to fear from them. But all this 'new media' that sprang up over the past few years, that HAD to be reigned in.

They never learn, throughout history, in the end that bad guys lose because they always underestimate the will of the people once they are informed.

Well, I take that back, they DO realize it, which is why it is so important to them to smear and attack the messengers so the people will NOT be informed.

The point isn't to release all these documents. The point is to inform the public about what is going on. That involves going through the documents, writing about what in the documents the public should know and releasing the certain documents that can be safely released. This was obvious from the very first article about PRISM. The whole PRISM powerpoint wasn't released, only a select few slides.

Why don't YOU guess 'what the public should not know' regarding leaked documents.

Then we can go back and see if you agree with yourself the last time leaks were discussed here in a very big story!

I KNOW I always agree with myself, mainly because of where I am coming from.

IF you remember what you thought the public should not know and what leakers did wrong, in your opinion, then YOU WIN.

for "indiscriminately" dumping too many documents - a charge that isn't true, but was leveled anyway.

It seems disingenuous to now criticize Snowden/Greenwald for not doing so.

Obama To Leno: 'There Is No Spying On Americans'

by Greg Henderson
August 07, 201312:44 AM

President Obama defended the , telling NBC's Jay Leno on Tuesday that: "There is no spying on Americans."

"We don't have a domestic spying program," Obama said on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "What we do have is some mechanisms that can track a phone number or an email address that is connected to a terrorist attack. ... That information is useful."

It ALL depends on what the definition of "spying" is.
I'm sure President Obama has the appropriate note from his lawyer.

It is hard for the power establishment to keep a lid on this when new revelations keep being released over time, despite any "terra" alerts. Those will tend to start looking suspicious to even the most unthinking sheep type after awhile.

These snide insinuations attempting to slime Greenwald are hilariously transparently opaque.

Must've been a dairy maid in a former life...milking this baby for personal fame for all it's worth!

Seems to me there's a lot of chrome being put on this particular vehicle (the I'm-an-important-part-of-this-story vehicle, not the actual important story). Know what they say about that in the far off land Detroit (aka "Motor City&quot ?

If it don't go, chrome it. Chrome away Mr. Greenwald, chrome away!
