Woman helps girl, 12, elude abductor: 'She didn't have to do what she did' - Chicago Tribune

Ms. Brewer is a brave woman. We need more. But, what really struck me about this story is Reniah's words, "She didn't have to do what she did." It made me sad and I couldn't figure out why. I thought about it and all I can come up with is, this young lady has already become jaded. She doesn't expect kindness from strangers. No, Ms. Brewer didn't have to do what she did. Keeping that young lady safe was the best part, but something else happened. That young lady got a glimpse of what humanity should be. Maybe that little glimpse will make her hungry for more. I'm so glad she's safe.

The little girl not only got a glimpse of what humanity should be, she saw how to handle this sort of situation.

I'm glad she's safe too...
