A Phoenix radio personality has bowed out of a Catholic event after organizers questioned her support of the gay community.
"I had to take a stand," Beth McDonald, longtime morning host on KEZ 99.9, said after meeting with Catholic Community Foundation officials, who told her some of their supporters were concerned that she had agreed to participate in the Gay Pride Parade on April 21.
McDonald was on board as emcee for the foundation's annual Crozier Dinner on April 14, which previously was embroiled in controversy for its decision to honor former Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien. O'Brien declined the honor after abuse victims and their family members raised an outcry.
...McDonald noted that her radio show enjoys a strong following in both the Catholic and gay communities.
