Chemical Companies Striking Back in Hawaii

THE CHEMICAL COMPANIES STRIKES BACK:

Kaua'i County Council is threatened by chemical lawyers

At the Kaua'i County Council Hearing Yesterday, Lawyers for the chemical companies testified that bill 2491 is unconstitutional and it will be struck down in the court system. When this bill passes, The Kaua'i County will have to pay the legal fees to enforce this law. This legal challenge will probably go to the Hawaii Supreme Court.

The Committee needs to vote to allow this bill to go before the full County Council. Several Members of the Committee are scared by the threats from the chemical lawyers and have delayed the next Committee hearing. Instead of it being August 19th, it will be September 9th, so the County can get additional legal opinions to ensure it holds up in court.

The chemical companies have done this countless times. One of the more recent was in Vermont, when the State Legislature was about to pass a GMO labeling law and the chemical lawyers threatened to challenge the Federal GMO labeling law that prevents states from creating their own GMO labeling laws. If this GMO labeling law in Vermont passed the State legislature, the State would have had to pay for the legal fees to enforce this law in the court system.

For some reason all the members of The Kaua'i County Council do not understand that we are not backing down. We have no where to go, no options to protect our health, our families and our islands.

If this bill dies in committee as may happen, or if it is stripped of it's key provisions because those provisions will be litigated in Court, fascism is the current state of our government. Fascism is corporate control of government.

Many of us have spent years pushing this process forward and it must continue. Failure is not an option. Our movement needs a victory and we will get a victory at the Kaua'i County Council.

One of the reasons that we targeted Kamehameha Schools to transform Hawai'i and EVICT MONSANTO instead of spending time focusing on politicians, is because the chemical lawyers are masters at suppressing democracy. They have defended the poisoning and killing of people in the political system around the world. The political process takes times, be patient.
