The issue du jour is not really about contraception

It all boils down to the fact that employer-sponsored/provided healthcare (non/bad/expensive) coverage should NOT be in the hands of our bosses.

We should ALL be assessed a "tax" and we should have coverage for all but cosmetic/elective procedures. Legal reproductive services would be part of the "buffet".. Don't want it? Church say "NO"?, then don;t use it, but for all others, it's there

There should be no VA coverages, no union coverage, no medicaid.. We should ALL be on MEDICARE . Private insurance should be available to cover the 20% that medicare does not.

It would be very affordable if you only have to worry about the 20%

If it means "nationalizing" hospitals/clinics/pharma, then so be it.

Wages would rise because people would finally be free to change jobs, or start businesses, and there would be true competition for workers..

It should include dental/vision and hearing too.

1. Am remembering this incorrectly?

Back during the run up to getting HCR passed I am pretty sure that the idea of Medicare for everyone was discussed. Think I can remember seeing Dennis Kucinich on my TV promoting this idea. Sounded good to me.

Then a few days later some non-partisan entity came out with a report that crunched the numbers and the costs for such a plan worked out to something like $500-$600 a month, per person, depending on the state.

Then after that report came out the idea died very quickly. Never seen DK again talking about it.

Does anyone else remember these events happening or did I dream it all?

What NO ONE talked about was that the money NOW being spent on the employees' behalf would become INCOME..and the amount that employees now paid as their share would also be applied..

Insurance lobbyists were fierce

May he rot in hell.

He sabotaged the hopes of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, that s.o.b. That effing sh*t. That piece of garbage....

But I digress...

Did I mention that Lieberman was an asshole?

and $500 - $600 per month becomes cheap!

Besides, the contribution people are already making to their employer would now be applied towards that fee. For many (most?) that wouldn't be that much more and they'd never have to fear a medical bankruptcy again.

More than 50% of bankruptcies are medical related. And something like 80% had (private, usurious, extortionate) insurance.
