I found this a few years back on Salon, it was written as a post to their feeback letters by a poster named Little Brother, this is a repost since I put it up in GD in 2009.
My "perspective", such as it is, is a myopic hodge-podge of legacy reactionary bumper-sticker clichés coeval with coprolites, drowned in the greasy gravy of corporate media-manufactured neocon wingnut talking points.
I have a formidable capacity for intolerance, unreasoning contempt, and leaden snark. I believe that my country is the strongest and greatest country in the world, and that perforce its policies and conduct, domestically and internationally, is always Right-- because Might Makes Right, of course. What world are you living in?
I despise those who challenge this view, or seek to erode and dislodge the keystone of unreasoning Zealous Patriotic Faith that supports the soul of the Greatest Country in the World, the U S of A, in its never-ending battle against the Forces of Evil, i.e. Everybody Else (except Israel and the other members of Our Hegemony).
In my world, crass name-calling, snide caricatures, and poorly-crafted personal put-downs and cheap shots are recognized as legitimate tactics in making points and winning arguments-- because, lacking intellectual acumen, depth, sophistication, and discernment, these clumsy skills are all we've got.
The proof of their efficacy can be seen in the applause and attaboys frequently expressed by my Troll Brethren in these comments; they confirm that I effortlessly steamroller over the pathetic and treacherous sedition disseminated on sites like this.
Cognitive dissonance is my friend; it keeps me strong and indomitable.

(84,711 posts)I didn't get onto the Internet until Win95..and AOL...and I was clueless before that. I worked in "Dead Tree Publishing" and had another life.
My only experience with Internet "Discussion" was when after Stolen Election 2000....I found DU and signed up in 2001. I missed a lot. Most of my time after I signed up for Win95 and AOL was spent defending Bill Clinton by reading "Media Whores Online," Joe Conason and his fellow Reporter from Arkansas (can't remember name now) on Salon defending Clinton against the RW...(Which I was REALLY INTO--for a Very Long Time)
My only internet dialogues with humans has been here on DU...I've watched it evolve..
It's not looking good. I wish that "Media Whores Online" was still out there Plugging away. This is short... Don't want to write about it anymore. It is what it is.
We should be pleased we at least had some "Salad Years."

Hopefully he will rethink and post a reply again to me.

She was right.

We can never know about the days to come
But we think about them anyway, yay
And I wonder if I'm really with you now
Or just chasin' after some finer day
Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'
And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
And how right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those lines just late last night
When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be
Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'
And tomorrow we might not be together
I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try and see into your eyes right now
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
(These are the good old days)
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are?.the good old days)

(84,711 posts)New York Minute Lyrics
Harry got up, dressed all in black
Went down to the station
And he never came back
They found his clothing
Scattered somewhere down the track
And he won't be down on Wall Street
In the morning
He had a home
The love of a girl
But men get lost sometimes
As years unfurl
One day he crossed some line
And he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get pretty strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Lying here in the darkness
I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency
Somebody's going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get a little strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
And in these days
When darkness falls early
And people rush home
To the ones they love
You better take a fool's advice
And take care of your own
'Cause one day they're here
Next day they're gone
I pulled my coat around my shoulders
And took a walk down through the park
The leaves were fallin' around me
The groaning city in the gathering dark
On some solitary rock
A desperate lover left his mark
'Baby, I've changed, please come back'
What the head makes cloudy
The heart makes very clear
I know the days were so much brighter
In the time when she was here
But I know there's somebody somewhere
Make these dark clouds disappear
Until that day, I have to believe
I believe, I believe
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
You can get out of the rain
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get a little strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
You can get out of the rain
In a New York minute

(65,616 posts)My my. I remember sending messages on a BBS. Looking at 4 bit graphics. Crappy little pictures in ASCII. DU is as great now as it was in 2001. Someones even brought back the 10 ten idiots on GD. Good stuff.

(84,711 posts)Did Earl G. really bring Back the Top 10 Idiots? I know it's been requested.
But these days...it can cross lines...imho. I'll check it out...if you say it's there.

(62,325 posts)Won't ever spend much time defending any Politician ever again.
I never made it to Media Whores, I was on two other sites back then, which I thought were the entire Political internet Lol. Lots of Trolls controlling things on one of them.
When I discovered actual Democratic Forums, I couldn't believe it, you could actually read intelligent comments from people who weren't always on the attack. I got so used to their 'snark' and attempts to insult, that after a while it didn't bother me at all. THEY otoh, were pretty upset when people just kept posting the truth about their heroes ignoring their talking points and personal insults which quickly grew boring.
It's not looking good.
No, but think of all the last few years has taught us. Unpleasant thought it is, it's way better than fooling yourself and soon we can begin to 'move forward'.
Wish I had met you on Media Whores KoKo ...

They may not call themselves right-wing trolls, but the proof is in the looking-for-a-fight post they make and I respond in kind.
Boy do they ever HATE being called out though!

(27,985 posts)I have a fondness for playing with the clueless mouses. I know I ought not and I do try to just alert, but most of the time, I just have to dangle something first. It's a weakness of mine, I will admit.

(1,151 posts)Long before I ever heard of the internets, I was involved in discussions with what we now refer to as RWNJ's. As A young man, I was naive enough to think these people had the ability to carry on a civil discourse. I discovered that I was in err. Those same people have discovered the game you describe.
But you cannot on this forum , point them out lest you will be censured.

(84,711 posts)They are not now what they were.... Times are different...and I think this might have been, originally, just a Lark for them...and many of us took DU much more seriously than they did at that time in their life. That WE wanted more...was not maybe what they could do...or ever wanted to do. Just saying from what I've observed through the years.
BUT, I do wonder myself sometimes...what could have been. What COULD have Been.
Although there is still Daily KOS...
