DeSOTO COUNTY - A DeSoto County jailer told internal affairs investigators he did not report a colleague for abusing former inmate Jody Holland because he is not a snitch.
Those revelations were contained in a massive internal affairs report released this week the department's response to Holland's allegations of abuse, which are still being investigated by the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
A federal grand jury is meeting this week about the case.
Internal affairs investigators confirmed what Holland has claimed since his release: He was battered by a jailer several times, while other staff watched and took no action to stop the abuse.
Holland, 43, says DeSoto deputies slammed his head into a concrete wall, punching him in the face and chest and choking him nearly unconscious.

(4,876 posts)1. I just finished a book by one of the West Memphis 3 where he details
the abuses in prison. He says they are an every day occurrence. Guards get away with murder. Sometimes literally, and there is no recourse...
It's a pretty intense book called Life After Death by Damien Echols...

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla.- The Desoto County Sheriff's Office is proposing three deputies be fired, after an alleged attack on inmate Jody Holland.
Holland claims he was beaten by deputies while he was in jail for violating a restraining order against a woman who happens to work at the jail. Holland's lawyer said the beating was payback for what he was accused of doing to their fellow employee.
