We wanted immunity for them. Or at least to use our own military justice system in such cases.

They basically kicked us out by not extending the agreement (which we pursued).

Bush would not have taken no for an answer. Not even from a democratically elected government. This is evident by the universal GOP call for us to remain regardless of the agreement. It was one of Mitt's campaign themes.
