Let's all drink to our Administrators

Especially EarlG who has been a busy bee, let me introduce a particularly appropriate whiskey

But be warned about this Broken Bell

from an actual user:

http://www.boozehund.com/drinks/2141-broken-bell

I bought this whiskey trying to try a new mixing whiskey instead of my usual buffalo, makers, or bulleit.

(spoiler: that's a mistake)

The square bottle was nice to feel, it had a good looking cork, and upon opening it, nice oaky notes greated my nose. It smells pleasantly like Grandpa, when he wasn't smoking too much and coughing up phlegm that he'd spit onto the rug, and I'd have to clean up.

(spoiler: That's the best part of this review)

Once you put it in your mouth (The whiskey, not grandpa's phlegm, you sicko), the first thing to greet you is an incredible whooshing sound as all of the moisture in your body is evacuated via the insane tannic flavors of the whiskey. Next the oak comes in, with bitter and sour notes, making your lower vertibrae twist as your molars involuntarily grind towards one another. As you distort in agony, the phenolic notes begin to burn/numb the upper pallet, a welcome respite from the rest of the flavors.

It gets worse form there.

I expect this or worse from the 1.75 of old crow that I once bought out of desperation and soul-crushing sadness to bury myself into a sink pit of apathy. I gave most of that bottle to a heroin addict in south lake tahoe, who ended up pouring it on the parking lot as anti-freeze. I don't expect these feelings of revulsion, self loathing, and bad life choices from a $24 bottle.

Reminds of a "Broken Bell" I used to know in the blogosphere.

No, seriously. I suppose you have to really stay glued to the site for extended periods of time (or maybe I'm just slow), but popping in and out doesn't allow me to really follow posters' patterns, let alone the interplay with others.

I always feel I'm outside the playground, looking on. Then again, I don't care to be part of any brawls or cliques, so in this case I suppose ignorance is bliss.

Hannah Bell was different (for me)because she was an apologist for hardline communist regimes, and apparently still had a soft spot for Mother Russia and Putin and the KGB. It went from the absurd to the hilarious with her because you could tell that she was trying hard not to show her real colors but would eventually break down. Last time it was defending North Korea as a workers paradise and this time defending Russia's crackdown on gays as no big thing. This made her memorable.

I see HPD had nearly 21k posts in less than a year and a half.

That's rather extraordinary, and pitiful on my part that, even with that number of posts, I didn't have an impression regarding post tendencies.

Now that I think about it a wee bit more, I used to have a better handle on other posters, as far as their general interests and leanings. The general lay of the land, if you will.

That was in DU2. Many things shifted with DU3, and with the increase in new members -- new names and faces -- my brain just shut down.

As I said, when it comes to DU, as much as I appreciate this space and the members, I do believe that, at least for me, ignorance is bliss.

Always nice to "see" you, grantcart.

There was a clear association with the WSWS and the Socialist Equality Party.

During one 4 day period she posted hundreds of posts, many very long. So I did a timeline on her posts and found that she was posting for all but 4 hours a day, clearly indicating more of a group effort.

In the middle of one exchange a posts got deleted and 'she' read my replies out of order and misunderstood my reply that I had prior knowledge of the deletion.

So just out of fun I wrote a very conspiratorial answer saying that sources were well informed about who 'she' really was and that we would soon be revealing that she was really Joe Kishore, the number 2 at the Socialist Equity Party. I waited 20 minutes and then deleted it, to make it look even more conspiratorial. 'Hannah Bell' then went "off the air" for about a 24 hour period and when they returned was extremely polite and non confrontational to me when ever we met in a thread.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Kishore

But for the most part all of the usernames tend to blend together and I have a hard time keeping people straight!

I most certainly remember Hannah Bell.

I must say, I never even considered that some usernames may be a group effort, but that simply must be the case with some -- certainly not all -- but some prolific posters.

These intertubes are fascinating.

In reference to that ridiculous comment from Bush about how he "looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul" (pardon me real quick while I )

John McCain said that he also looked into Putin's eyes but instead of his soul:

"I saw three things: a K, a G, and a B."

I'm sorry I laughed so loud I took out about three of our cat's nine lives.

If someone yanks your chain a few times, you start paying attention to them. They always post some 'tells' if they're a zombie or a sock. The ones who get caught just can't let the past go. It's that simple. They tend to out themselves to people who they had a history with.

Normally these squabbles have an inscrutable beginning and end but this one was rather delicious and I can only hope that the Social Equity Party is having an emergency meeting and will hold several conferences on the matter as we chuckle about the absurdity of it.
