They control about 30 states lock, stock and barrel. They control the House, stalemated the Senate, nullified the President.
Also they control AM radio, Cable and the social media. They are knocking our socks off and have us running in circles chasing our tails.

(75,480 posts)The ones we see, the politicians and media personalities are only following orders because they will gain wealth and power doing so. The rest are pathetically stupid but that's how the Party likes it.

(13,919 posts)Amoral is not the same as intelligent. Being willing to sacrifice human lives, even the whole ecosystem, the willingness to stab any one in the back, break or destroy anything or anyone who might mildly get in your path, is not the same as smart. But it often will lead to material success in our current structured society.

(52,195 posts)but that has nothing to do with smarts.
in a nutshell, they cheat. they legally bend the rules of fair play in their favor, then exploit said legal unfairness to the full extent possible, and for good measure, they bend the rules illegally as well, as far as they can get away with.
they exploit all their resources to tilt the playing field in their favor. they *know* liberals are smarter, so they change the playing field to focus on shouting matches and sex scandals and clothing and sighs and rumors and hate and fear and greed and so on in order to make the strengths of liberals less effective and make the strengths of right-wingers (mostly money and narrowly-defined loyalty) more effective. their tactics actually acknowledge that liberals have the edge in the smarts department, as well as in the facts department.

(4,462 posts)After Obama was first elected and had a veto-proof majority in the Senate, I often read how the Republican party was now dead and insignificant. The reports of their death appear to have been greatly exaggerated. They control the House, most statehouses and legislatures and have a reasonable chance of taking the Senate in 2014. Heck, Michigan, the home of the UAW, is now a right to work state.
Constant vigilance and political involvement is necessary to achieve progressive goals. The Republicans may be very wrong, but they are not stupid.

(12,448 posts)fact is that if you have enough money, you can make anything you want happen.
It is that fact that keeps the powerful in power, regardless of political affiliation.

(6,234 posts)You hear this regularly from both the right and the left. Bush was an imbecile, Obama is an idiot, Clinton was clueless, Reagan was just reading a script. None of this is true of course. They are all brilliant men buried in mountains of information and unimaginable levels of stress.

(4,185 posts)The vast majority think the party leadership has lost touch with the values, and therefore they are stupid. So, they organize (at least they think they are) and nominate Christine O'donnel who spends her time trying to convince the electorate she's not a witch. When I agree with Karl Rove, that is a stupid candidate, brought to us by a group that thinks the leadership is stupid
I don't know if its paradox or psychosis.
