Orson Scott Card: A Whole Lot of Crazy

http://www.ornery.org/essays/warwatch/2013-05-09-1.html

Unlikely Events

by Orson Scott Card

This is the column where I predict how American democracy ends.

No, no, it's just a silly thought experiment! I'm not serious about this! Nobody can predict the future! It's just a game. The game of Unlikely Events.

It isn't my work as a writer of science fiction and fantasy that prepares me to write about unlikely events. My job in writing sci-fi is to make impossible events seem not just possible but likely. Inevitable.

(snip)

Historical lies have great persistence. There are still people who think that Winston Churchill "failed" at Gallipoli; who believe that Richard III murdered his nephews, though the only person with a motive to kill them was Henry Tudor; who believe that George W. Bush lied about WMDs in Iraq.

(Wait, what?.... much more crazy at link)

Orson Scott Card Outdoes Himself With Insane, Racist Rant

Looks like "Ender's Game" author Orson Scott Card is in hot water yet again.

Last time around, Card was criticized for saying that "there are no laws left standing that discriminate against gay couples" and suggesting that being gay is a choice. He also expressed his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying "I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society where they will expect to marry in their turn.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author basically distances himself from the crazy by claiming it's just a thought experiment, but honestly my tea party relatives actually believe this stuff. Am I the only one with relatives this crazy? I do not even know how to talk to them anymore. It's scary....

"Obama is, by character and preference, a dictator. He hates the very idea of compromise."

Mr. Card, Obama has compromised too much as is. If he was the leftist we wanted him to be, people like you would be consigned to obscurity, jail, or an early grave.

note the quote where it said "obama talks like a white man, that is why people say he is articulate."

Baffles me how anyone would not see the bigotry in that bog post. So many comments claiming there is no racism is worrisome.

will not ever buy any of his stuff, ever. He has long been a hateful, paranoid, racist, homophobic lunatic with no real knowledge of history and politics. If others want to pad his pockets with their hard-earned money, that's fine, that's their decision, but I will not ever put one penny of mine in his royalty pockets. And he's completely delusional if he thinks that Obama's the one who's the "dictator" who "doesn't like compromise." Totally, utterly, completely delusional. Unless, to him, compromise means what it means to current republicans as so eloquently defined by that great intellect, Indiana's own teabagger senate candidate Richard Mourdock: "Compromise is when they agree with us."

I was at a movie theater this past Monday, having taken a trip into the nearest city for some errands, to see Elysium. During the two hours of previews shown beforehand (at least, that's how long it seemed to take), one for Ender's Game came on. The announcer was droning something about an unprecedented theater event that no one will want to ever miss, and that everyone loves movies so, if you only see one movie this year make it this one. I found myself saying out loud, (I really had not planned to say anything, only to myself), "sorry, no, not that one, ever". I was surprised when there were some giggles and snickers behind me, and someone in that group said "boy, I hear ya."

in front of Pacific Rim. Love Sci-fi! Love special effects! Love Harrison Ford...(will never forget Mosquito Coast.) Really disappointed to discover the author is such a delusional bigot. Don't think I'll pay to see that movie either.
