In my opinion, the only people who consider NSA surveillance to be the top issue facing this country are very vocal folks in remote corners of the interbwebz.
PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Twenty-five percent of Americans list the economy as the most important issue facing the country today, a Gallup poll released Friday indicated.
Following the economy, 19 percent of Americans said the most pressing issue was unemployment and jobs, followed by dissatisfaction with government at 17 percent, results indicated.
At 25 percent, non-whites were much more likely to say unemployment was the most important issue than whites, at 16 percent, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said of its annual Work and Education survey.
Overall, 53 percent of Americans surveyed listed economic issues as the most important problems facing the country. Fifty-seven percent of all Americans surveyed listed non-economic issues, such as healthcare, ethical/moral issues in Washington, immigration and education.

(26,877 posts)If the purpose of this post is to minimize the NSA issue by using a useless poll, it hasn't achieved it.

(30,439 posts)The economy has been the top issue for some time now.
Also, if you read my OP, I essentially said NSA surveillance is not the top issue. I made no mention of the 4th amendment being unimportant.

(26,877 posts)No, you were DEFINITELY attempting to minimize the NSA and 4th Amendment issue.

(26,877 posts)Unfortunately, for the last 32 years, our government has twisted the trajectory of the US economy to favor the very few at the economic scale. So, it hasn't been good for a very long time.
That said, anyone who looks to their own fortune while forsaking a basic tenet of Liberty as defined in the US Bill or Rights is very narrow minded.

Yeah, those folks and civil libertarians. Even were that true- and you provide not a scrap of evidence for that claim- so what?
Let me help you out with this: Just because the majority doesn't care about something, doesn't mean jack about how important something is. That's particularly true when it comes to our constitutionally guaranteed rights.
This isn't rocket science and your desperate defenses are just sad at this point.

(11,495 posts)But what i see from the poll is that most americans consider things like the economy, jobs, health care, and immigration, to be more important than the NSA issues. The whole NSA issue needs to be investigated and then something needs to be done, no question about it, but is this really the "MOST" important issue we have now? What do you think should be the most important issue being discussed these days?
Cooley Hurd
(26,877 posts)...the usurpation of the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution is pretty fucking important. And, I can multitask, so I can be concerned about BOTH the economy AND the NSA overreach concurrently.

(11,495 posts)I simply said that for MOST people their priority these days have to do with the economy, jobs, health care, immigration are all higher on their list than the NSA. If you want to put NSA higher that's up to you, but for those who have no job or have a low paying job, have no health care or can barely pay for their health care those things are much more important.

(30,439 posts)Actually I think the opposite is true.
It's a great day to post this IMO.
BTW, is there a daily list of topics that are appropriate for discussion?

(11,495 posts)The whole economy needs to be fixed, but as long as republicans are going to do their best to "STOP" anything that actually might help to fix the economy, things won't change. Of course the best way to get those changes is through congress, and the best way to get congress to actually "work" is to get rid of those who are doing all the can to make things worse, not better. Voting them out of office seems like the way to go in my book!
