Although, actually, it has always been fallacious that the Rethug party should reach out to minorities of all stripes because there should NOT and CANnot be two parties of the same thing. The Rethugs stand for racism and greed, period. If they moderate to reach the under served, the core followers will simply break off into their true core party, which, it might be argued, the TeaBaggers and others have been doing.
What would a modulated Rethug party be: A racist party of less greed?!1 A greedy party of less racism?!1

Does a suicide pact get better than this? GOP decides to also boycott Telemundo and CNN Espanol in 2016. http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2013/08/rncs-nbc-cnn-boycott-to-benefit-univision-170671.html

RNC's NBC, CNN boycott will extend to Telemundo, CNN Espanol
In a highly anticipated move, the Republican National Committee voted unanimously on Friday to deny NBC and CNN the rights to host or sponsor a Republican primary debate unless those two networks cancel their respective Hillary Clinton film projects. ....
While NBC and CNN's competitors stand to benefit from the RNC's decision, there's another potential winner who has gone unmentioned: Univision.
On Friday, RNC communications director Sean Spicer told POLITICO that the boycott would extend to NBC and CNN's Spanish-language channels: Telemundo and CNN Español. ....
That leaves Univision, the country's leading Spanish-language network, as the obvious go-to for any Republican primary debate targeted toward America's rapidly growing Latino population, which the GOP is desparate to make inroads with in 2016.
The Republicans did not hold formal debates with any of the three Spanish-language channels in 2012, though they did hold a "presidential forum" with Univision.
But more importantly, all CNN debates were broadcast to America's Spanish-speaking population on CNN Español. Without that channel, the RNC will need to find another avenue to reach Latino voters.

(3,891 posts)But I don't think it's dumb at all. First, a vast majority of the Republican base doesn't watch CNN anyway. They're slaves to the Faux News channel. By excluding two stations, they put Univision in the front for the Spanish Language issues, which is fine because Univision has a much larger audience than Telemundo or CNN's Spanish language channel. So they don't really hurt themselves there. Also it was Univision that did the hour long special on Fast and Furious, one of the RW CT's that hasn't ever gone away. So the thinking might be that the Republicans will get a more fair airing on Univision.
Now, what does it do for the base? By taking this action they shore up support with the base showing that they are fighting against liberal bias. Remember how we all responded when the White House said they were going to ignore Faux News? We cheered because our side was telling the other side to stick it way up there.
So why would the response be any different on the other side of the aisle?
No, this isn't dumb, this isn't suicide, it's pretty smart to shore up support with your base before the midterms, and then assuming that they can keep it, through the 2016 Presidential.
They get to appear like the Party is fighting for their ideals, and all they have to do is get tough against a couple television channels. CNN doesn't have many viewers anyway, even we tend to ignore it on the left. So why not slap them around? It creates the image that the Party is fighting for the ideals on the right, and doesn't cost them anything but people who probably wouldn't vote for them anyway.

(70,679 posts)Midterms are all about turnout. That is nothing but Base, and how motivated your base is. If the party can shore up support by showing that it's fighting for the base, even on a BS issue like this, especially on a BS issue where it doesn't cost them anything, why not do it?
When President Obama cut off Faux News, we cheered on the left. What makes you think that the RW is going to cheer any less when the GOP cuts off CNN and NBC on a subject of bias, which is one of their constant talking points?
After the midterms, that's when they'll start reaching out, but for the midterms, it's all about turnout. They'll have the image that the GOP is fighting for the party and the people by dissing a network that nobody on the Right watches, and has one of the lowest ratings just above CSPAN, and the offense they create won't hurt them one bit.
Nah, this is smart, shore up support and get your base fired up for the midterms. A bunch of those together we can change Washington advertisements and they'll pick up some seats in the Senate, the question is what will we be running on? From here, it looks like we'll be holding on to the millstone of the NSA spying bullshit.
