What they did is not against the law in Russia. Russian legalized gay sex in 1993 -- before the U.S. The new law did not change that.

But you do know that Russia has laws against "propagandizing the gay lifestyle" to "children" under the age of eighteen, do you not? Seriously--you can't NOT be aware of that, if you've paid any attention to the news lately.

The two athletes are in technical jeopardy if there was a single individual under the age of eighteen in that arena, or if a single child in Mother Russia observed that behavior on their televisions. Hand holding, kissing...hell, even wearing the rainbow flag logo--or rainbow painted fingernails--is verboten.

This is a regressive law but in other areas Russia has been ahead of the U.S. Gay sex was legalized in 1993 before the U.S. and gays can serve openly in the military since 2003 -- again before the U.S.
