They want to deny that Obama and the NSA have any accountability to the American Public. Power without Accountability leads people to become corrupt and do bad things. One does not do a favor for someone by being an apologist and denying accountability. Leaders are human beings, with all the flaws of humanity that they could be susceptible to (even Martin Luther King fell to temptation through extramarital affairs.) Accountability is a good thing because it tells our leaders that we are watching and that they can't get away with things. It thus makes them more likely to stay good and do good things because it keeps in them a fear of doing bad things, and when that fear is removed, they are more susceptible to temptation which leads to corruption and them doing bad things, and ultimately hurting themselves or the organization through a tarnished legacy. It's a similar effect to the "yes men" around certain celebrities (like Britney Spears and Michael Jackson many years ago) that lead them into a downhill spiral. Thus, one does not do a favor to anyone by showing unfettered loyalty and denying them accountability. Not to mention being unamerican by putting the leader over the constitution and the future of the country.
