General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs a member of DU, I ask everyone, now that we have a Democratic President in office, do you agree
with every decision made (or not made) by President Obama.
I find it incredulous that anyone can not find something that they do not agree with President Obama about.

(18,219 posts)that would scare the shit out of me.
I do not believe that there is anyone who agrees with everything that President Obama says or does. It is probably the same tactic I use when having discussions with wingnuts......I refuse to give an inch.

(64,931 posts)It just bothers me that there are people that worship him, as some people worshipped the previous president.

(20,600 posts)I just did my post to show that even those on the other side of the hardcore fan club of Obama, can see the positive things about him.

(10,611 posts)You've just confirmed that you're bought into the notion of "Obama worship". Why are you even asking your question?
And do present examples of said 'worship'. The word is dead tired and overused, so for all the times it's been dragged out, what does it take to be a 'worshipper'?

(23,664 posts)That is I agree with probably half the decisions he has made. Unfortunately, of late the ones I disagree with (NSA surveillance, chained CPI, Lawrence Summers) are more high profile than those I agree with.
I'm sure that will change over time. Maybe up, maybe down, I can't say.

(17,671 posts)I'm interested in what kind of Democratic president we have after the Biden administration. Or maybe the Warren administration. That would be cool.

(1,933 posts)Obama care and gay rights are the only two things I support him on. He is just like any other Republican when it comes to foreign policy.

(10,711 posts)...the surge in Afghanistan, for instance, I never thought likely to work. It was a waste of money and time. But, on the other hand, if I were in charge I'm not sure what I would have decided, or whether anything was likely to have a good result.

(128,480 posts)However I know that every time he has attempted to push a progressive agenda forward, it is blocked. And even when he overtly proposes the GOP's agenda just for spite, it is STILL blocked.... all because of the black face that causes their heads to explode.
The important issue at this point isn't the President. It's Congress and the 2014 elections. GOTV in your states or territories and make sure that your voice is represented.

(2,424 posts)I can honestly say that I disagree with a Democratic President more than I agree with him.
The only good news I have heard in the last two years is that the Cayman Islands are now open to federal income tax. I consider it to be the main achievement of the President's second term.
Edit: I am also pleased that there is a director in place for the new Consumer Credit Protection Bureau which, in the long run, could prove to be the President's real crowning achievement. If Liz Warren is thrilled about it, I am thrilled about it.
I'm happy that it is the Heritage Foundation's ACA which is taking all of the GOP heat instead of the CCPB.

(35,015 posts)Of course no one is going agree with all of Obama's, I certainly don't. But that doesn't mean he should be denigrated as some do around here. The state of our government is complicated to say the least. It would be nice if discussions reflected this.

I think he should have slapped Bush upside the head when they met for the last time on inauguration day.

(12,288 posts)I find power in the group / Party...I seek and support the power of majority and leadership. I'm in support of Democratic contol everwhere at this point. The days of party's negotiations are in the past at this phase of American evolution. That's where I stand. I don't like many acts by Democrats now and especially during the bush years. That said, I won't ever agree with any republican position today. I'm a Democratic loyalist.

No two people agree.
But some here never agree with the President.

(25,592 posts)I'm not seeing all that much agreement with us about the important stuff, like you know Wall Street, wholesale spying on US citizens, and getting his Obamacare setup and working on schedule. Oh, and his expansion of the drone murders.

Yes, I've agreed with the President on issues. I've posted that before. I'd list them but I've already had my Democratic Credentials challenged enough by another self appointed enforcer of the Democratic Party tonight.

(11,709 posts)And about larger and larger issues?
I still believe in the things I believed in before Obama became president so which of us is changing?
I still believe in safeguards against domestic spying.
I still believe in the right to a trial before execution.
I still believe that healthcare is a right for EVERY American.
I still believe that seniors need more money from social security, not less.
I still believe that public schools are better than charters.
I still believe that the War on Drugs has decimated generations of our youth and that raiding medicinal marijuana clinics is reprehensible.
Why doesn't the candidate I worked for and donated to in 2008 support those things in 2013?

(9,314 posts)In order to keep a majority of the people placated, each one seems to dole out decisions as in one for you, and one for them, another one for you, and another one for them. It is more noticeable in some that others, but it is very noticeable in President Obama.
That is why it is so hard to be totally critical or bash a president (I am not counting Bush* who I do not consider to have been elected in either 2000 or 2004) because they seem to make an effort to appease both sides to some extent. Reagan did not play this game well. He tried to win over the country with personality, but I do not believe many on the left were too fooled by that.
Bill Clinton talked a progressive language but his overall administration sparked what we now call the New Dems (formerly named the DLC). Before he became president, he was touted as the first candidate sponsored by the DLC, and that organization was ecstatic to see one of its own take the Oval Office. As time as lapsed, the New Dems have moved farther and farther to the right, as most people here know.
So I do not agree with every decision President Obama has made but I think if his second term were over now, he would go down history as one of our greatest of presidents. As with other administrations, though, we will learn a lot more about what went on behind closed doors as historians take over and write their takes on his terms in office in years to come.
On the other hand, some of his positions have greatly surprised me and made me very happy. The best example of that has been his support of same sex marriages. But other positions he has taken have also greatly disappointed me, such as his failure to support organized labor to the extent I thought he would have. Putting both of these sentences together in this same paragraph prompt me to say President Obama is probably a very accomplished politician more so than a very accomplished progressive!
