of Texas Gun Laws
Holcomb told a local news station that the purpose of his conspicuously armed visits to Huntsville businesses is to protest a Texas law which permits gun owners to openly carry long rifles but not handguns.
If you go shopping in Huntsville, Texas, youre likely to run into a local preacher with an assault rifle slung across his back. Beginning last week, Pastor Terry Holcomb started posting videos of himself wandering into local businesses with an AR-15 Bushmaster rifle the same weapon used to kill 20 children and six adults in the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting.
In one video, Holcomb wanders about a Walmart for several minutes before he is approached by two store employees and asked to leave. He argues briefly with those two employees until a manager approaches and threatens to call the police if he does not exit the store. Although Holcomb then agrees to leave the store, he refuses a request to stop videoing the engagement at one point, his camera man claims the recording is for Holcombs safety.
Holcomb told a local news station that the purpose of his conspicuously armed visits to Huntsville businesses is to protest a Texas law which permits gun owners to openly carry long rifles but not handguns, which must be concealed and can only be carried by individuals with valid concealed carry permits.
Yet, while a legal regime that regulates handguns more strictly than assault rifles may seem counter-intuitive, it is entirely sensible to apply stricter regulations to handguns than to other firearms in light of the fact that handguns are so frequently used to commit homicides. According to the FBI, there were approximately 47,500 murders committed with a gun in 2001-2005. Almost 8 in 10 of these murders were committed with a handgun:

(3,724 posts)see him in Walmart, think he's about to open fire, and start blasting away at him so the gun humper can be the Hero That Prevented a Mass Shooting?
These people are fucking nuts.

(12,072 posts)The gun is slung over his shoulder, not drawn and ready to fire. Shooting him while his gun is like that would be like shooting a man whose gun is in a holster and then trying to claim self-defense - it won't fly.

(12,072 posts)He did rebuke Peter's attack on the High Priest's servant. But that wasn't self-defense on Peter's part and could have escalated a bad situation and get all the disciples killed.

Thats enough! he replied.
The disciples ALREADY had a couple of swords. Obviously they routinely carried them, without rebuke from Jesus. There is no comment in the rest of the NT about them being armed because it was fairly common at the time.

(12,072 posts)A smite on the cheek is not a blow to actually harm, but is an insulting blow. In modern terms it would be a slap on the cheek, which is normally understood to mean a challenge to fight. In such cases Christians are to refuse the challenge to fight. However, a genuine violent attack may be met with such force as is needed to defend oneself. Absolute pacifism in the face of violent evil will allow evil to rule.
Notice that Jesus got violent in the temple when he chased out the moneychangers. Also, Jesus in Revelations kicks ass.

(12,072 posts)I haven't been in a fight since 1965. I have walked away from several. I do have a Concealed Handgun License and do carry when I am out of the house, except when at work. For me to carry at work would be a felony, so the gun stays in the car. If necessary to save my own life or the life of my family, I will use it.
Wife has a CHL also. She has twice used her gun to prevent herself from being mugged. No shots fired, would be mugger ran away each time. After the two incidents which were only a few weeks apart, she was never bothered again during the three years that she went to work there, although another employee was mugged. Word got out on the street that she was not an easy victim.
You seem to believe that we should place the life of an attacker as of greater value than our own lives. We solidly reject that. My life is of greater value to me than the life of a common violent street criminal.
