Working in Tesla’s favour is its lack of baggage of any kind. It has no internal-combustion technology to defend, and thus no problem in reaching regulators’ ever tighter targets for fuel efficiency. It has no inherited pension and health-care liabilities and no auto workers’ union. In the past premium car brands have typically taken decades to establish themselves, but perhaps the “millennial” generation, used to seeing new smartphones rise and old ones fall, will be more open to start-up brands, especially ones from Silicon Valley.

... is whether or not Tesla would be friendly to workers organizing.

If the employees don't want to organize that is fine.
But if and/or when they do, will Tesla management be friendly, neutral or oppose the workers?

if they pay them good wages and benefits they shouldn't have to worry about it.

But a vote may never be taken. Who knows?....
......this start up brand. can now claim, the safest car ever tested I hope it makes it.
This one point safety ...it is incredible. Now, if workers get to unionize at some point, and share in the profits...that would be too
much to even imagine....

My husband's iron/metal works? No union. But they start out with four weeks paid vacay (not counting shut downs around 4th of July and Christmas), he pays their health care (they have dental, vision, etc. etc.) family leave is family leave, don't come to work when you are sick, and the lowest paid person is the Admin/Receptionist making $18 an hour with an associates degree.

If Tesla is following a western European immigrant model (my husband's basis for benefits and pay) the employees might feel like - Hey! We are respected, treated like human beings, are paid a living wage, encouraged to sit down and eat lunch, get annual bonuses, etc. etc. - they might not need to.

We need Unions now more than ever - and they should use small business owner upstarts as an example of how to build a business, have loyal and happy employees who come to work knowing that they are a human being.

It's a less profitable model but as we say . . . how much do we need?
