Speaking at the end of a three-day Vatican conference on diagnosing and treating infertility, Benedict also reiterated church teaching that marriage is the only permissible place to conceive children. Matrimony "constitutes the only 'place' worthy of the call to existence of a new human being," he said.
The pope pressed the church ban against artificial procreation, saying infertile couples should refrain from any method to try to conceive other than sex between husband and wife.

(2,322 posts)...he just doesn't want science to find ways to create babies outside of wedlock. That, for some reason, is playing god.
Someday, someone is going to have to explain to me why god would give us the brains and ability to play god if god didn't want us playing god.

It truly amazes me how the pious leaders think they know so much about the commoners' sex lives. They need to pay more attention to controlling their own...and don't say they have none.

(18,219 posts)I have always had a problem with these churches being against birth control or other modern conveniences of medicine, but still thinking that it is ok to go against their god's wishes. If their god did not see fit to bless the couple with children, then they should just accept it as "god's will" instead of thinking that they know more than god. It seems hypocritical to me to accept everything else as god's will, unless it gets in the way of your own plans.
