(6,942 posts)...I hope no tax $$$$$ are used to fund this transition. We have to many hungry elementary kids in schools to have to pay for this.

(78,249 posts)Even if the Army did pay for PFC Manning's gender reassignment, which they say they won't, how much would it cost them? $100,000, maybe?
You know how long it takes the Army to spend $100,000 on their daily business, like killing civilians with drone strikes? About five seconds.

I don't understand the controversy around gender reassignment surgery.

(34,064 posts)If you supported trans* individuals, then you
- would not refer to Chelsea Manning as "him"
- would realize that taxpayers pay for all medical care for convicted criminals - why should care for this condition be any different?
- would understand that the medical care associated with transition varies from near nothing to the cost of a couple of surgeries and ongoing hormone therapy. One of the medications used is also used as treatment for high blood pressure (and fully covered when it is used by convicted criminals for that or reasons other than transition).
- would have a clue that the cost of treating all trans* individuals who are incarcerated - even at the most expensive end of the cost range - is barely a drop in the bucket when compared to the cost of providing food to hungry elementary kids.
So if you really do support trans* individuals, how about being vocal in ways which actually are supportive rather than inserting random irrelevant negative comments into the conversation stream.
