A package that was seen near the door of the post office triggered an evacuation of the post office and a bomb squad call out.
How much do you wanna bet the bomb squad is about to blow the hell out of somebody's innocent mail? The last time I was at the post office I saw several packages...isn't that where you are supposed to take them?
Plus, they keep complaining about their (Police and city NOT THE POSTAL SERVICE) budgets being cut and having to reduce pensions. Here's a novel idea, maybe stop calling the bomb squad every time there's something on the ground. I see tweets where almost daily it seems the bomb squad is called to blow the hell out of a piece of garbage near a trash can at the bus station or my personal favorite was when a bag was left next to the Goodwill donation center. It took them hours (and $$$) to finally blow up some donated clothes. When did we wuss out and become scared of everything?
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A suspicious package has forced authorities to close parts of Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park and has led authorities to evacuate the towns post office, according to Clay County Emergency Management.
The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad as well as numerous other emergency agencies are on scene in the 1300 block of Kingsley Avenue.
Authorities have yet to inspect the package that raised alarm

But their calling the cops to check it doesn't really have anything to do with the PO's budget and pension woes.

(3,724 posts)and perhaps thinking that something was 'off' with this one. I don't care if they used an abundance of caution in handling it. Better that than blown up people, wouldn't you say?
And by the way, the post office's budget problems are solely due to the outrageously unjust law passed by Congress that requires them to fund their retirement fund for 75 years. In advance. You did know that, didn't you?

(39,343 posts)No one has to pay when they call the police. I was addressing the over zealous nature of bomb squad call outs for things like garbage next to a trash can or a package at a post office.

It was trash but very suspiciously placed in a dumpster!
