A 9-year-old girl was beaten and nearly killed in the women's bathroom of a Florida Best Buy

A 9-year-old girl was beaten and nearly killed in the women's bathroom of a Florida Best Buy, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police have arrested 29-year-old James Patrick Tadros.

The Sheriff's Office says Tadros lured the girl into the women's bathroom of a Jacksonville Best Buy where he then punched, kicked her and put a plastic bag over her head while holding her down in the toilet.

A customer heard the girl's screams, entered the restroom and helped stop the attack.

The girl is being treated at University of Florida Health hospital.

Police say Tadros did not know the young girl. Authorities described the attack as an isolated, random incident.

"It was by the grace of God that the customer and employees got in when they did," Sgt. Jay Farhat told First Coast News. "If it had been any longer this could have been a much worse outcome."

7. Florida has one of the highest rates of "transience" of any state

It's right up there with California. Transience, from what I've read, tends to foster anonymity and the evils that can bring. It's definitely harder in many parts of Florida to establish lasting social structures. People come and go so often in this state, especially if you live in Orlando or another major population area.

I'm definitely not excusing heinous conduct, but I think the sheer volume of transience in this state breeds behavior that, say, Iowa does not encounter. Many people move here and then leave within 5 years or so. Some, of course, put down permanent roots. Some are trying to escape their problems "up north" and come to Florida, only to get disillusioned and leave. Florida also has no state income tax, lower property taxes and a very generous bankruptcy allowance (you can keep your million dollar home in a personal bankruptcy).

Florida definitely has its issues.

But if ever there was a time a mob of customers should have kicked the ever-loving shit out of a guy, this was it.

I mean what the hell is going on? In my mind I know random and apparently motiveless attacks happen all the time, but this level of senseless violence we're seeing lately is jaw-dropping.

But when a gun is used we focus on what was used instead of on the crime and it's cause.

3 guys shoot a random stranger because they were bored and the focus is on gun violence and how they got it and how we can stop them from having one - had they beaten him to death, run him over, stabbed him, people would be asking the questions that matter and might help better find a resolution.

Adam Lanza? All about the guns. Try asking why anyone would do such a thing and the only reason is the tool they used and if we didn't have such tools people wouldn't hurt each other.

But they do. They have in the past, they continue to do so, and if we don't start spending more time and energy on the why instead of the how than maybe we don't really care about solutions to the core problem at all.

You can't regulate morality. You can, however, find the root causes and address those. Sad we have so many who choose to spend their time not doing so.

This guy will be locked up, no follow up as to why he did it, no one will care, and nothing will be learned or gained and the debate will go away in a day. His actions have no political use to people, no way for them to further an agenda, the suffering of his victim cannot be used to whip up people into a frenzy and she will be forgotten by the start of the week since she has no use to people.

Maybe we need more money for studying people, crimes, how and why's, and more energy and people devoted to covering all sorts of such violent acts and not just the ones that prop up an agenda and gloss over the many other victims.

But that requires real work, not an emotional rush or a post on a board to get people simply to agree with you about the device used, it requires we think, analyze, and address problems that are more complex and require serious discussion about society.

And we have laws about using guns already. Not saying we should ditch them.

that if he were on a murderous rampage and went into the store with a gun, he would have easily killed this girl, and a dozen or so other people as well. People did question why Adam Lanza wanted to kill people. You don't remember? There were threads and threads asking that. But people were also focused on how many people he was able to kill in that state because he was able to kill so many.

But as a parent, I am curious as to why a 9 year old was alone enough to be lured into the bathroom by a stranger. No word at all about where the parent(s) were, either when the luring was being done - or when the child had been missing long enough to be lured and nearly beaten to death.

is a very large metropolitan area. And crime is rampant due to the sheer size of the city limits. The police force is overwhelmed there.
