Cringeworthy footage of would-be bride whacking her boyfriend on the head goes viral

The YouTube video shows a couple walking up to a group of buskers in a shopping centre. To his girlfriend's horror, the man takes the microphone and launches into a gooey speech while the musicians begin to play.

"You are my charm, you are my sweety pie, you are my cutie pie, my absolute everything," he says, "and I know you find this cheesy but I want everyone to know, you make me really happy."

The girl is visibly embarrassed as more and more people gather around and a toy-train drives slowly past. As the man drops down to one knee to propose, the girl grabs the busker's miniature guitar and whacks her suitor on the head with it.

This is actually a Cadbury marketing campaign in India. Clever.

but it wasn't reversed, and for good or ill we tend to see minor female violence like this as amusing and refreshing but any male violence as brutality.

Honestly, talk about putting people on the spot if you do that. It's not a good thing to spring it on someone. If you want to do a public proposal, you should at least have been talking about marriage in your relationship - and preferably sent up some trial balloons first.

I get that we make surprise proposals into a THE romantic thing in our culture, but how many have felt that they could not say no if their partner put so much effort into the proposal? Especially women are pressured culturally to be nice and not turn down a guy that publicly admits his love (See any score of rom-coms and Disney movies) but honestly, a guy is just as likely to do this when he feels his control over his girlfriend slipping as when he genuinely want to form an equal partnership.

And doing it to someone who hates being the center of attention shows such a lack of understanding of the potential partner's character that they should say no out of principle!

I just needed to make this clear - even tho' it is an ad.

and am proud to say I scoped it out as fake before reading the part about Cadbury. I don't know why anyone would think this is real.
