I know the reasons many on DU do not support it but I don't hear Repubs ever talking about a single payer? They hate Obamacare for different reasons, it appears?
They didn't hate it when Bob Dole proposed it. At least, I don't recall the vehemence as it is over Obamacare.
Why do they dislike it so much?
Would they really shut down the government rather than have Obamacare go into full effect? I don't understand their passionate opposition to the plan?

(60,013 posts)Just another in their effort to try to ensure that our president can never achieve anything (which of course is folly, since he has accomplished much despite their best efforts at obstruction). One could say just nasty post-citizens united, Koch, ALEC partisan politics. Another could say it includes a large dose of racism.

-Robomneycare was the plan that they were going to push.
-They know it is a stepping stone toward universal single payer

(9,688 posts)Some Dems think a single-payer system, designed after a study of the triumphs and flaws of the various single payer plans in the more progressive nations of the world, would make for a qualitative difference - that a socialist system is the only right way to go.
That's an argument that really hasn't been made, yet, in the US.
But Reps can't even imagine such a criticism. Reps in the US are well beyond the norms of "conservatism" and are, to be blunt, fascist. They don't want gov't regulation of *anything*, so *any* affordable care act would be anathema to them, being by gov't edict.
By "Reps" I'm talking about the fuckhead fascists who call the tune, not the huge number of independents who might've voted Republican in this or that election. These voters shouldn't be treated the same. That huge number of independents, maybe more than half of Rep voters, are waiting for Dems to speak to them, to explain how regulation has helped others over the whole world and can help them.
