Teacher arrested for having sex with 2 students over a 4-year period

An elementary school teacher at a North Carolina K-12 school has been accused of having sexual relationships with two different students over a four-year period.

Amy Tilley Bower, 45, was arrested and charged Wednesday with two counts of sexual activity with a student and two counts of indecent liberties with a child, according to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.

Police received a report concerning the 5th-grade teacher's inappropriate conduct in late July.

According to WBTV, the report alleged that Bower was involved in sexual relationships with minor male students from 1998 to 2000 and 2004 to 2006.

According to WSOC, both students were 15 years old when the alleged relationships began.

How could someone be smart enough to become a teacher, yet dumb enough to do something like this? I don't think it's that hard to understand that sex with a minor is wrong.

4. At the bottom of that article there is a slideshow that shows

pictures of teachers who either have been convicted or have charges pending for having sex with students. It will blow your mind away how many of them are women. The stereotype of the male teacher being the only ones committing sexual offenses against students is a thing of the past.

7. A bit of a double standard too

Of course there is outrage for the Montana teacher that only got 30 days, and there should be for that and Im glad there is outrage. But there have been several female teachers that raped male students and didnt get any jail at all, and those cases are largely ignored by the media and the public.

I am as much as a feminist as anyone else here. But I call for fairness and equal sentencing in these kind of cases. If we put male teachers in prison for 20 years for raping a female student, then we need to start doing the same for female teachers who rape male students. Otherwise it sends a wrong message in several different ways.
