Whee! We're about to get a kabuki fireworks show!
Fundamentally, that's what this is.
Thankfully, we're not invading. At least not this year. Maybe down the road if our politicians continue to act like jerkwads.
But this week, what we're looking at is a CNN-televised cruise-missile attack show.
Maybe a few dozen Tomahawks or similar weapons will be used. We'll be watching the whole shitshow on cable news, seeing the missile nose-cams showing various buildings or vehicles rushing at the camera before it goes to static, and we'll see the kabooms and fireballs from the news crews on the ground.
And we'll watch the fireworks, and go oooh, and aaaah. And then we'll be horrified when we see who got killed - chances are good that a few of them will miss and blow up civilians. Oops.
In the end, it'll solve nothing.
Bashar Assad will continue murdering his own people by the hundreds of thousands. Maybe he'll stop using sarin, and switch to murdering them with machine guns and napalm. But the murder will continue, and probably increase.
And the tension levels in the Middle East will spike up. And the politicians will yell at each other. And our politicians will mutually slap each others' backs and congratulate themselves on how they were Tough on the Eeeeevil Dictator.
Meanwhile, our world continues to get shittier.
