General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsNow that Obama is finally imitating FDR, the Far Left is STILL complaining about him.
We all remember how the far-left of DU kept wishing that Obama acted more like that musty, crusty old racist- FDR.
They were not content when Obama decided that non-racists like Reagan (R), Lincoln (R) or Nixon (R) would make better, more moderate, more non-racist models to follow.
Well- now that he is acting like just like FDR and going after the Hitler of Egypt- they STILL complain.
Egypt is just like Pearl harbor- and FDR would have bombed the crap out of it- and the far left KNOWS this.
FDR knew that the middle class and poor would have to make sacrifices, and Obama knows this too.
This proves that the far left will just attack Obama and disagree with him no matter what he does or does not do- even when he does what FDR would have done.

You will of course expound on this premise, and illustrate to us the relevant similarities (as when Cairo (or Aleppo?) bombed Pearl Harbor and invaded Dutch Indochina, or some such), with objective sources cited for this rather extraordinary claim of yours, yes?
Dr Fate
(32,189 posts)And the far left cant stand it that they now have lost the "Obama should be more like FDR " argument.

And for many of us, Obama now does remind us of a former President. Problem being, the former President he reminds us of is most certainly not FDR.
FDR despised the banking class, and helped the formulation of the Glass Steagall legislation, which prevented the Biggest Financial Firms from becoming gamblers.
Under Obama, we have the appointment of Tim Geithner, who has actively opposed any re-instating of Glass Steagall. Until this happens (and it won't unless we somehow get ourselves an Elizabeth Warren Presidency,) our nation's "Top Banks" will continue to grab 49 cents out of every dollar of profit created in this country. (During FDR's era, only 3 cents out of every dollar of profit went to banks.)

Maybe you need to read about how FDR supported lynching.
I'm glad that Obama refused to imitate FDR and instead imitated non racists like Reagan and Nixon.
On this issue, he imitates all 3- something for everyone, yet the liberals still complain.

Thanks.
Dr Fate
(32,189 posts)So you know as well as I do that FDR refused to do anything about lynching laws.
This is why all the DUers excpet for you were relieved when he decided that Reagan and Nixon were better, non-racist role models.

Anyway, that was what led me to believe this was satire. It WAS satire wasn't it? DOG, I hope so.

Dr Fate
(32,189 posts)Except where he is racist.
FDR knew that bombing Hitler was just as- if not MORE important than SS- and Obama is arguably in line with those thoughts as well.
On this issue- you are getting FDR- but this time without the racism. Seems like a win-win to me.
all he will do is displace 10s of thousands and plunge us into recession. win-win? I doubt it. Obama couldn't make a pimple on FDRs ass. You have 4000 vets from the ongoing wars already laying around in Atlanta without care how about taking care of them?

"I tell you it's spelled W-O-O-M," the first said loudly.
"No no, no," the second protested. "It's W-O-O-O-M.'
"You're both wrong," the third ventured.
"I say it's W-O-O-M-B."
A gynecologst passing spoke up. "You're getting close," she told them. "Actually, it's W-O-M-B."
They stared at her a moment, then stared at each other. Finally one spoke:
"Madam," he said, "it's obvious that you've never heard an elephant fart."
