This thought just came to me. When President Obama made the Red-Line comment about the use of chemical weapons will cause him to take action - does anyone think that either Assad or for that matter someone else (rebel forces, another government, someone wanting to embarrass the President or force his hand) used chemical weapons to put us in the situation he and we find ourselves in today?

(8,039 posts)hadn't issued his warning, McCain et al., and by the looks of it a good many people on DU, would now be saying if ONLY Obama had said something, all this would never have happened.
Whoever did this--and it looks to be the Assad regime--is responsible. Period. Full stop.

(22,541 posts)He supplies Syria with the chemical weapons, and all its weapons. He doesn't think the US can act right now. He thinks the Snowden leaks have damaged us too much and that we're too weak. This is an opportunity to showcase our weakness and for Russia to look strong.
Russia also supplies Iran. Iran wants to revamp its nuclear program. Russia will help them do that, and sell them the delivery system. Then they'll get a foothold in Pakistan. They already have Yemen and Somalia. The list will just get longer.
