Banker’s Insulting Waitress Tip Incites Class Warfare Between the 1% and the 99%

Banker’s Insulting Waitress Tip Incites Class Warfare Between the 1% and the 99%

Just when you may have thought the ongoing battle between the 99% and the 1% was dying down, it may have been reignited. A wealthy banker left a $1.33 tip on a $133 lunch at the True Food Kitchen restaurant in Newport Beach, California.

To add insult to injury the word "tip" was circled on the receipt, and the banker wrote "get a real job" on the bill. The picture of the receipt was taken and uploaded to the blog Future Ex-Banker by a person who was dining with the anonymous banker. As expected, the blog received a lot of attention and has now been taken down. The author of the blog wrote, "mention the 99% in my boss' presence and feel his wrath. So proudly does he wear his 1% badge of honor that he tips exactly 1% every time he feels the server doesn't sufficiently bow down to his holiness."

People online who had a chance to see the blog post before it went offline and those who have been made aware of it on social media outlets are outraged. One person called the tip a "tale of greed and contempt," and another referred to it as "arrogance personified." The Web's general reaction to this story is eerily similar to an almost identical 1% vs. 99% scenario that took place last fall. In Washington state, a waitress received a tip of no money and advice scrawled on the receipt that told her she could "stand to lose a few pounds."

I'd like to see how HE would fare as a restaurant server. If it isn't a "real" job, why didn't he make his own fucking meal?

"As expected, the blog received a lot of attention and has now been taken down." -- I would expect the exact opposite. Why would it have been taken down? The restaurant involved has not commented -- it would be easy to find such a receipt. Where is the waitress -- why no comment from her? Doesn't pass the smell test.

There are many, many people like this who have had plenty of luck all their lives and believe that the misfortune of others is a character flaw or 'choice'.

They are some of the most philosophically stunted human beings to have ever lived, yet they have enormous resources and power.

It's a travesty.

Shit, the rest of us are going to get taken down anyway, hyperinflation isn't any worse than what's coming for the 99% here soon.

It just also happens to put the rich's skin in the game; and when it happens in America, no foreign currency will be a safe haven.

plus their business receipts don't have to be public.

To think that this thing never happens doesn't pass my smell test. To imagine this happening in OC is pretty easy.

The note itself looks kind of funny...could have been highlighted for emphasis....I'm certainly willing to believe it after that pig broke the waiter's finger over bad service down in Florida.

The banker may have more responsibilities, but I can guarantee you that waitress has a much more physically demanding job.

I bet this fatcat banker is the first to demand "where's my waitress" if he doesn't get served immediately.

Unless he enjoys a bit of body fluid in his food.

Whether the story is true or not, there are enough like it around, and never underestimate what can and does happen in the back of the house.

Even if this story isn't true there are plenty of others just like it. I remember waiting tables in the 90's and having a prominent community member grab my wrist and say to me "My tip for you is to get a real job." I also remember getting business cards explaining how a the customer didn't believe in tipping because they thought everyone should make minimum wage.

Oh, and if someone thought they were clever they would use the word "gratuity" instead, saying that they'd show much gratitude if I performed some act or another on them. (I won't go into details.)

Maybe this isn't real but I'm sure it's happened somewhere.

It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. There are countless pompous arrogant individuals in the banking industry. They feel they are superior to everyone and don't hesitate to show it. If misfortune preys upon these bankers then all I will say is "it couldn't have happened to nicer people".

It really is a sickness with the 1 percenters. It's a stinginess that crosses over into hoarder territory. When you take everything else away, it's not about their work ethic, but how they earn their money, and how they intend to keep it.
