Rush Limbaugh: America’s Least Favorite News Personality

This is encouraging!

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/02/27/433117/rush-limbaugh-americas-least-favorite-news-personality/

Rush Limbaugh: America’s Least Favorite News Personality |

A new Harris Poll out today finds that conservative shock jock Rush Limbaugh is America’s “least favorite” news personality, with 46 percent of respondents picking him for the dubious honor. Runners-up Bill O’Reilly and Nancy Grace come in a distant second and third, at 31 percent and 23 percent, respectively. But more interestingly, Limbaugh is universally disliked. He is the only person whom Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike chose as among their top three their least favorite people. (HT: Dylan Byers)

Dereg began under Raygun but it was Clinton who sent it into hyperspace when he pushed DeReg 96 that allowed corporates such as Cheap Channel (rushbo's bosses) and Cumulus to control a large number of the "public" airwaves.

BTW...rushbo wouldn't apply for "fairness doctrine" since his show is considered "entertainment" (thus why he calls himself an "entertainer" not a "news person&quot and wasn't covered under those rules...which only applied to public affairs programs...

If the Fairness Doctrine still existed, I think someone would have a very good case that those stations that carry him would have to have balanced programming. Instead of Hannity et al.

I worked radio in those days...talk shows were considered "entertainment" and news was also exempt from the "Fairness" doctrine. It was designed to give all candidates access to buying advertising time (the station couldn't discriminate in favor of one party or candidate over another) and for the then mandated public affairs programs. Those Public affairs requirements were also wiped out thanks to Telcom '96.

Stations avoided highly controversial hate spewers primarily since it wasn't good business...locally owned radio operations prefered to not piss off listeners and advertisers and tried to balance their programming...that's not the case now when one corporate owns upwards of 7 stations per market and they sell commercial time in bulk...local programming and advertising no longer matters.

He gets his money from advertising, the RNC, Shittoheads who pay to subscribe to his website and buy the
garbage he sells there and various RWingers who pay him to say a few good words in their favor on the air.

Another Democratic candidate, Howard Dean, echoed Clark's sentiment to fire the conservative talk-show host.

"To imply that the success of African-American is an undeserved gift from a biased media is absurd and offensive," Dean said in a statement.

Before McNabb led the Eagles to a 23-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Limbaugh said on ESPN that he didn't think McNabb was as good as perceived from the start.

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

After the reaction surrounding his remarks started to heat up, Limbaugh was asked to appear on ESPN's SportsCenter on Wednesday night but declined. However, on his syndicated radio show Wednesday, he reiterated that he doesn't think McNabb is a bad player, just that he isn't as good as some media members think he is.

"This is such a mountain out of a molehill," he said. "There's no racism here, there's no racist intent whatsoever."

But that only seemed to fan the flames.

NAACP president and CEO Kweisi Mfume suggested that if Limbaugh isn't fired, ESPN should at least provide an opposing point of view during the Sunday Countdown show.

"What's almost as bad as Limbaugh's comments is ESPN's feeble defense for putting him on the air," Mfume said in a statement. "If this is the future of ESPN, I think fair-minded fans, who tune in for sports news coverage, and not for racist views, should get their sports on other networks. It is appalling that ESPN has to go to this extent to try to increase viewership."

He wrote:

"A Conservative Manifesto Liberty and Tyranny"

A Conservative Manifesto[17] was released on March 24, 2009, and became a No. 1 New York Times best seller for eleven of twelve weeks,[18] as well as No. 1 on Nielsen's BookScan.[19] It comes in at No. 2 on Amazon.com's list of bestselling books of 2009.[20] The book includes discussion of a variety of issues that, according to Levin, need to be addressed in the United States. Liberty and Tyranny has sold over one million copies according to Threshold Editions, the book's publisher.[21] Former federal prosecutor and fellow National Review Online author Andrew C. McCarthy wrote of Liberty and Tyranny in The New Criterion:

We are in the high tide of America’s Leftist ascendancy: the Obama evisceration of individual freedom and installation of authoritarian collectivism—at warp speed, driven by an ambition that would have made Woodrow Wilson and FDR blush. Against this tidal wave, Levin offers not so much a defense as a plan of attack, a clarion call to roll back the seas of Change.[22]
Taking a contrary view, Steve Almond of Salon wrote that

the tantalizing beauty of a Mark Levin's text resides precisely in this ability to attribute any crisis of State to its nefarious indulgences. The current economic meltdown, for instance, should not be blamed on the psychotic greed of Wall Street, but on the State's deranged need to throw money at the poor and undeserving.[23]
