Hallandale Beach woman's documentary to show how Trayvon protests jolted Sanford officials
With George Zimmerman's acquittal in the slaying of South Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, a post-verdict legacy of songs, movies and analysis may be on the horizon.
So far, Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, collaborated with a gospel artist to record a song. A juror in Zimmerman's trial announced a book deal that was quickly scrapped. And filmmaker Spike Lee has spoken about the dramatic potential of the nationally watched case.
"I wanted to know what city officials and police did, and what they didn't do," said Sherry Suttles, 66, who directed and narrated "44 Daze," a reference to the time between the killing of the 17-year-old Miami Gardens youth on Feb. 26, 2012, and the day that Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder. "I was curious."
A 90-second trailer of "44 Daze" has been posted by Suttles on YouTube. Because Suttles has not yet found a distributor for the completed film, a release date for it hasn't been set.
