Oh Snap ! The Syrian Opposition Vows to Join Ranks with Assad if US Attacks Syriainterests in the region will be attacked by battalions of suicide
bombers formed by the Syrian opposition forces if it dares to attack
Syria, stressing that homeland is more important to the dissidents than
opposition to the government.
Although, we are among the Syrian governments opposition forces, we
assume our homelands interests to be more important than any other
interest and therefore, we have formed a number of battalions to conduct
suicide operations and target the US interests in the Middle-East,
Secretary-General of al-Shabab Party Mahir Marhaj told FNA on Saturday.
He blasted the US and its allies warmongering policies and threats,
and said, We in al-Shabab party are highly prepared to confront any war
against Syria.

(4,868 posts)In April 2013, the agency carried a story claiming a 27-year-old Iranian scientist had invented a time machine that allowed people to see into the future. A few days later the story was removed, and replaced with a story quoting an Iranian government official that no such device had been registered.

(4,868 posts)This is also the source that reprinted an article from The Onion as fact.
Fars News Agency, a semi-official mouth piece of the Iranian regime, earnestly published a word-for-word duplicate of an article from the Onion, a spoof news organisation based in Chicago.
The satirical article cited a fake Gallup poll which found that 77 per cent of white, rural voters would rather go to a baseball game or have a beer with Mr Ahmadinejad than with the US president.

I hope I read that right, read it fast, nah, it couldn't be right....
Congratulations again Mr. President.

Unite to drive out an invader then go right back to sectarian violence and continued civil war?

(17,064 posts)That way no civilians will be killed, and the rebels won't turn against us. And it sends the same message to Assad that "chemical weapons use isn't acceptable, but we can't prevent you from using them". The MIC gets to replace a few Tomahawks, and Obama gets relief for his war-boner. Win-win for all concerned.

(35,298 posts)This is known as an ad hominem fallacy. Because the person making the claim cannot possibly be trusted the claim must be false.
There is no need for the claim to be false unless the person making the claim must necessarily only present false information.
The news agency reports lots of true things. It also reports absurdities.
Rather than conclude the report must be false, the appropriate response is to evaluate the claim independently, if possible, seek confirmation, or to say that there are more pressing claims to use available resources to evaluate (Peirce would be proud).
It's not an unreasonable claim, but it's most likely going to be only partially true. The extent of its truth isn't something that I find worth wasting resources on.

it took us like 7 years to stop liking the mujhahedeen (in fact we stopped paying **L on 9-12-01); Benghazi! was aimed at the CIA goon squads hunting down the people they were aiding a few months earlier; for Syria, the CIA has been reported (LA Times?) to be planning bombing runs on the rebels while arming the rebels
